Tribute & Message From The Family

Jesse A. Carper went to play music with his heavenly father Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the age of 26. Jesse was born August 1, 1988 in Salem VA. He grew up with an instrument in his hand and managed to put it down long enough to play his favorite sports, football and baseball. Jesse is a 5th generation musician in the family, who had many friends and never met a stranger. Jesse participated in alot of activities for such a young age with his music. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and a special musician and singer that touched many hearts throughout the United States. He will be greatly missed and we hope that he has encouraged many young people to carry on his legacy.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Curtis Sr. and Mary Mills, and Edith Carper; great grandparents Lawrence & Bernice Bostic and Roy and Bea Carper. He is survived by his parents Steve Jr. and Donna Carper; grandfather Steve Carper Sr.; girlfriend Brianna Herman; godparents Tim and Clara Leftwich; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, bluegrass friends and musky fishing friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 3, 2015 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastors Danny Kesler and Kevin Altizer officiating. Interment will follow at Huffman Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Grace Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Craig Co. Steve & Donna:
There are no words to describe the pain and hurt we feel for you during this time. Your sweet Jesse was a gentleman, a ray of sunshine and a great musician. Anytime I hear a mandolin I think of 2 very special people... My cousin Donnie Myers and Jesse Carper. I guess those 2 are playing great music together now! I also remember the many baseball games Donna, that we sat at watching Jesse and Josh play together and that goes way back to when they were little! Jonathan was playing music in Troutville a couple months back and Jesse came to hear them and even sang with them. I'm grateful that both of my boys were friends of your Jesse. Lots of great memories that will remain in your heart and mind forever! He touched so many lives and will always be remembered. Love and prayers are being sent your way by so many and we all love you!! Love, Karen Wiseman and Jonathan

I am very sad to hear of Jesse's passing. He was a great guy... Those eyes and that smile. We struck up a conversation at the carwsh one day about how many quarters it took.. We just hit it off as friends. He was easy to talk to and we ran into each other from time to time and talked about life and family..told him how I had lost my dad to cancer years ago... I'm glad for getting the chance to know him... And he will be greatly missed.

So very sorry for your loss - have sent many prayers your way. As a teacher, some students remain "your Kids" long after they leave your classroom -Jesse was definitely one of those for me. He always had a smile and hug for me no mater where I saw him! He was loved by and will be missed by many.

Even though I didn't know Jesse well, when I was introduced to him the first time at one of their gigs, I knew right off this was a young man before his time. Always smiling, sharing his gift of music with the masses. He will forever me missed but always in the hearts of all he met. Play on Jesse....

Jesse affected so many lives in such a positive way. The last hug I gave him was in October of last year when The Locust Mountain Boys performed a charity event for my nephew. I was honored that they were the ones I could count on, along with the band Blue Connection. Jesse made an impact on everyone he met, and I am truly grateful that he was a big part of my family. Sing with the angels, Jesse. You will be missed.
