Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Marilyn by adding your memories and photos.

Three times I have attempted to write an obituary for mom, using the traditional format; however, Marilyn Richardson Melching (mom), doesn't seem to fit that mold. Mom was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, on March 31, 1947, to Russell and Genevieve Richardson. She spent her teen years in Ft. Wayne, and in 1964 married Dean Melching. They were blessed (or challenged - ha ha) with two sons, Darren and Scott Melching. Mom was first a school cafeteria worker, working her way to cafeteria management, (I found out later), in an effort to be closer to her sons. In later school years, she acted as a substitute teacher, to be closer to her sons. This was mom. She loved people, loved animals, loved her friends/family, and loved God. On Saturday, March 28, 2015, mom took her final journey, to be with her Lord, something she longed for. She had a relatively short time after being diagnosed with cancer (pancreatic +), so she did not suffer. Mom passed from this life, knowing she was loved, and still loving others. She was blessed to have spent of her last days with her sister, niece, sons, daughters in law (daughters, per mom).

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Melching, parents, Russell and Genevieve Richardson, brothers Don and Ted Richardson, great grandson Knox Robert Melching, faithful sidekick "Heidi", among others. She is survived by sons Darren (Lori) Melching, Scott (Teresa) Melching, sister Romayne St. John, grandchildren, Bobby (Martha) Melching, Melissa Melching, Brian Melching, Ben Melching, US Marine John Melching, and a host of nieces, nephews.

Those of you who knew Marilyn knew her love for people. While it is a sad time, for us, it is a joyous time for her. To that end, we choose to honor mom by recognizing who she was...a mom, a mother in law, a wife, a daughter, an aunt, and (per the obit), a comedian of sorts. Mom would rather have laughed than cried. Today, we choose to do both.....Godspeed, Mom...Godspeed...We love you...

I never had the privledge of meeting Ms Melching, but do know that any woman that worked her life around her children, as she did, had to have been a Very good loving person. She did good, because this shows through her sons. Love and Prayers for you all.

Love this sweet woman. She was like a mother to me. Always cut up and picked at me. My fondest memory of her was when I bought my first truck she decided to roll it inside and out with toilet paper. Sure do miss her and always will love her. My prayers are with the family.
