I just today stumbled upon the obituary of this lovely man. My condolences to your family.
I loved Watership Down and can't believe how many years have passed since I first read it! My daughter is 21 and we read it together when she was in high school. I loved the book and many years later had a beautiful double mane lion-head Angora named Nala. It was after she died that I reread Watership Down and it helped me come to terms with her passing. So many great words created in that book.
I imagine your husband/dad was a lovely man. He certainly was prolific!
Again, my sincere condolences to you all.

I'll never forget meeting Richard Adams at his Watership Down book-signing event at Humboldt State University Bookstore (Arcata, California) in 1976. I was a freshman at the time, 21 years old. I told him how much I loved his book, Watership Down!!! He asked me my name, and took much delight in signing my book. And then, he looked up at me, with this beautiful, warm smile, and added a drawing of a sweet little rabbit holding a carrot high in the air, with "Carrots for ever!" next to it. I sensed I may have reminded him of someone extra-special.
I will always hold my signed copy of Watership Down close to my heart. To write such a beautiful book as this is truly extraordinary. Maybe someday, we'll see each other again, running through the wood, where the primrose bloom.
My heart goes out to Richard Adams family....you are in my thoughts and prayers. And, special Thank You's to his two daughters for encouraging him to write his meaningful stories and share them with the world!

Please accept my condolences. Know that "the Father of tender mercies" feel your pain and sorrow. He sent forth his son Jesus Christ "to bind up the brokenhearted and To comfort all who mourn." (Isaiah 61:1,2)

I would like to extend my condolences to the family. From what I read about Mr. Adams, he had great compassion for animals and hated to see them mistreated. This reminds me of what it says in Isaiah 11:6-8. There it describes a time in the future when all humans and animals will exist together peacefully on the earth.

My heartfelt condolences to all who loved, and were loved by, Richard Adams.
He taught me much about leadership, and perseverance, and self-sacrifice. I so appreciated his willingness to love animals for more than mere "cuteness." I share his passion for kindness and justice, and I grieve his loss.
I pray for him and the eternal reward he richly deserves.
Thanks, Richard, and thanks to his family for sharing him with the rest of us.
