I am shocked and saddened to just learn of June's sudden passing. I got to know June in my law classes while in the MPA program at Suffolk University in 2004-2006. I was proud to say I worked with her sister Susan at DCR. Our professors often defaulted to her law enforcement expertise for tricky questions that would have otherwise gone unanswered in class. I had not met her before grad school, although she had just adopted (through Susan) my young dog, a Pug, named Basil Boy. Basil was meant to be a long anticipated gift for my mom -- but when she became too ill with cancer on L.I. -- June stepped up and gave him a loving home. Basil went on to live for 15 more happy and fat years -- many of which he spent with Mrs. Murphy in the kitchen. I often think it was God's plan for Basil to be with June and Susan's mom, instead of, as planned, with mine. June also went on to adopt several other Pugs after Basil. My deepest sympathy is with the entire Murphy and Survillo families -- especially my dearest friend Susan -- for the tremendous loss of June.

A gentle soul
has taken her leave.
'Tis not for her,
but ourselves, we grieve.
What shall live on,
in sweet memory?
That in knowing her,
how blessed are we.
