Tribute & Message From The Family

Clara R. Wilson, age 97, of Bel Air, MD passed away on May 18, 2017 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD with family by her side. Born in Wilkes County, NC, she was the daughter of William and Florence (Jones) Roberts and the wife of the late John William Wilson. She moved with her family to Harford County, MD when she was 7 and attended grade and high school in Highland where she met her husband. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1943 and later that year married her husband at Highland Presbyterian Church. She traveled with her husband while he was in the Army and then returned to Harford County where they bought their family farm. On the farm she took care of over 1000 chickens. In 1952 they bought Del Haven which at the time was a hotel/motel, gas station and restaurant. In 1966 they tore down Del Haven, built a shopping center and named it Del Plaza. She worked hard alongside her husband and they remained owner/ operators of the shopping center until they retired in 2001. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to many bridge groups in the Bel Air area. In 2008 after she lost her husband, she went to live at Avondell. Mrs. Wilson is survived by daughter, Lucy Wilson Hollens and her husband Tom of Bel Air; two sons, John W. Wilson Jr. and his wife Jennie of Orlando, FL and Stanley R. Wilson and his wife Janet of Quantico, MD; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Stephen H. Wilson. In lieu of Flowers a contribution can be made to Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road, Street, MD 21154.

Sending thoughts and prayers to your whole family. Mrs. Wilson was a wonderful friend to my mother, Kay Dick. They enjoyed many a card party, Wednesday bridge, and Highland Teas together. She was a kind and caring person and I never saw her without that lovely smile on her face.

Years ago I had the pleasure of caring for Stephen as his nurse in the dialysis unit at what is now Hopkins Bayview. Steve and I became friends and remained friends for years after I transferred to other nursing adventures. Often, Mrs Wilson would join us for lunch and several times we had the pleasure of visiting their lovely home. I remember she called to tell me that Steve had passed away and we cried together on the phone.
Mrs Wilson was a kind, generous woman who always had a smile. She had so many great stories to tell!
My deepest sympathy to her family- I know she will be missed terribly.

I remember Great Aunt Clara as a person full of life.
My sympathies are with you at this time. We just buried our mother Janet. They'll be together in heaven.

sad news today...My mom, Jean Holden, and Clara played many a hand of bridge together...and whacked a golf ball or two. She was a great help when I wrote the history of Del Haven several years ago. She was a true lady, having me to lunch the day of the interview...very classy and enjoyable. The likes of Clara are gone in these days of hustle and bustle...she worked hard beside her husband, always giving credit to him for their successes. Deep condolences to her family and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss and pray you all can find peace and comfort in this difficult time. My Great Aunt Clara was a lovely person with a big heart. I feel your pain and sadness with losing my own mother one week prior. I'm sure my mom Janet and Aunt Clara are having a grand time in heaven and are in the light of our Lord.
