Condolence & Memory Journal

My mother Pearl Katz was a woman of integrity, grace, kindness, goodwill, generosity, loyalty and most of all, love. Family and friends knew they could count on her under any circumstances.

Everybody who met Mom had something positive to say about her. They always commented on her warm personality that exuded positivity and most importantly, genuineness -- what you saw was what you got.

My mother was a passionate traveller who loved seeing the world. She loved life and embraced it fully, both the bitter and the sweet. Always a realist, she looked hardship in the face but always saw the glass as half full. Mom had a great sense of responsibility and took her roles of wife and mother very seriously. You could always come to her for comfort and advice. Mom had sharp b.s. radar -- she could instantly see and cut through any and all nonsense.

Mom was a doer who believed that everyone should live up to their God-given potential, but she was not a busybody. Mom respected everybody's privacy. If you told her something in confidence, you could be sure it wouldn't be gossiped about to others.

Mom was not one to always wear her heart on her sleeve but her emotions ran deep. She felt she had a duty to those closest to her to be strong for them and carry on. But my mother was also very sentimental. Just looking at photos from our family neighborhood back in the Bronx would cause tears to well up in Mom's eyes.

My mother always guided me in the right direction. There were times in my life where I was directionless and uncertain, not sure of the next steps to take, but Mom always offered me her unconditional love and even financial support. It took me a while to find my place in life but Mom eased the path for me.

I was blessed to have her as my mother.

Love you, Mom. Rest easy.
