My condolences to the Gilmore Family. We always thought of Jakie as a member of the family. She was always there for us and especially my sister, Marilyn. She will be missed by the Davis Family who dearly loved her.Georgia Davis

Jakie was my friend since elementary school. We went to high school and college together also. I know that she was a vital person, loved SCSU, was one of the first women to serve on the SCSU Board of Trustees. Even with all that she was able to accomplish, she still had to deal with illnesses much of her adult life. She didn't let that stop her. Well, now she had gone to a better place and is meeting up with her mother and sister and all of our classmates from Wilkinson and the Class of 1965 at SCSU. She left this place in better shape than she found it. Rest in peace, Jakie.

Jakie, my beautiful childhood friend and AKA Sorority Sister, your work is done; rest peacefully. I can still envision you as a majorette for Claflin University when you were in elementary school. You continued to meet challenges head on from then to your demise. I have so many funny memories of us! Until we met again, Little Sister...

Mrs. Gilmore paved the way for many women/men in the field of education and other professions. It was her manner of encouraging others and "doing the hard work" that showed her intense love for others. It is with great sadness that she has transitioned from this life, but her words, love, and support for others will always be remembered. She gave beyond measure....and for that I was blessed.

It is my prayer that Dr. Gilmore and his family will be strengthened through this loss of their beautiful and lovely wife and mother.

I will miss Jackie! We had been friends since she moved to Spartanburg. Her mother cared for my son when I lived in Orangeburg.... Just recently, we rekindled our relationship...for the past few weeks, I have been thinking about her, waiting for her call; now I know the call will never come & I will never get to speak to her again... however, I will always cherish the last time we talked only a few weeks ago. Have a peaceful journey, my friend.... And may God bless the Coleman & Gilmore families during this time of bereavement.

I am experiencing great sadness since yesterday morning after hearing that Mrs. Jacqueline Gilmore passed away last night. She was my fictive second mother while my mother Geneva Hines was living and quite sure that she was like a mother to some of you. She was the light when some of us experienced the darkness, she was the truth when some did not want the truth and the words of wisdom she delivered made me along with my parents and brother, Mrs. Pendelton, Mama Fikes, Auntie Joanne, Brother Dr. Bowie, Brother Smith , Drs. Underwood's, Dr. Cawthon and few others made the man and educator that I am today. Mrs. Gilmore was like a great corner woman like a boxer's corner man, she was there to uplift us, patch us up and give us advice back then in a system that was not meant for us. She has crossed over, however, she may be gone but will never be forgotten. Mine and my wife's sympathy, prayers and condolences goes out to her family. Peace & Blessings! <br />Here is my dedication to Mrs. Gilmore that was sung at both my parents funeral.
