To Otto's family,

I am writing to express my condolences to you during this trying time. I prayed for Otto while he was in North Korea that he would be able to make it back home to his family. I can't imagine how difficult it was throughout that year to not be able to see him and know if he is safe. He was very courageous and strong and I believe he was holding on to see his family again. I am very sorry for your loss. I am thankful that he was able to have the comfort of his family after his journey back to the U.S. My thoughts are with the Warmbier family.

Dear Family,

I apologize for the lack of nothing to say...That is meaningful.

I find the death of any young man in their prime of his Life. There was so more he had to offer and so many things he never know.

I believe God also needs soldiers up above so I would prefer to think that he got a big Promotion

The US needs him now more than ever.

His lost is felt by millions of Americans from all over the world and they WILL NEVER let his sprit die!

RIP my friend!

I recently read an article about South Korea and immediately thought of your son. I did not know Otto but in many ways I did. In May my brother passed away. He had accomplished so much in his life. He was an attorney and public defender. His death was ruled natural...but it was not. It was murder. No one has been held accountable as of this day.
I feel your loss and my own everyday. I am very sorry that my brother and Otto died but I am very very happy that they lived. Otto and your family are in my prayers.

I did not know Otto. I am from Canada and do not regularly follow the news but saw his/ your story on 20/20. I cannot even begin to imagine what he and his family has been through. Please know that the story has travelled through countries with people seeing such a bright eyed young man with the world at his feet in the clips and images. The comments from friends and family. It is so much more than a story and has affected me, and I am certain - the world- to the very core. I wish - to all the family, friends, aquaintances that knew such a vibrant young man- I wish for you to find peace.

As the online condolences of strangers slowly dwindle in the weeks ahead, the comforting thoughts of those recorded on this site and many others will continue on. When we least expect it, something will spark the memory of Otto's journey and his star will shine a little brighter. Remember that there is a myriad of people who will always remember Otto and his courage and your struggle to bring him home.

To the Warmbier family:

I just came across this site.

I followed the story of you son Otto since the first time they showed the story of his imprisonment.

I would like you to know that we prayed for Otto's release and safety daily.

As a family we were deeply saddened to learn of his passing so soon after he was returned to you.

Please know how many people loved and cared about your son Otto and for his wellbeing and safety.

When I saw Otto's Father wearing the jacket that belonged to Otto I knew in my heart that Otto will always live on in the hearts of his loved ones as well as in the hearts and minds of the American people as well as all the people around the world who came to love him as well.

God Bless
Our heartfelt condolences to the Warmbier Family

In 1987, long before this beautiful young man was born, I was in a production of "Hamlet." Playing Osric, I observed my fellow actor, Don K. Williams, Jr., playing Horatio, as he spoke Shakespeare's words that are so perfect for Otto: "Good night, sweet prince / And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." Good night, kind, sweet and gentle Otto.

Hi, I have followed Ottos Story for 15 months. I prayed every single day for Otto and his family. I watched Ottos parents on several shows, read articles, anything I could find. My heart is broken. When I learned Otto was coming home in a coma since the time of his horrific sentence, I was so happy and sad. I will now continue to pray every single day for Ottos family. I promise you all that I will never forget him. I want so badly to go to his parents and just hug them. Fred and Cindy you and your son, again, will never be forgotten and I will also pray that Otto gets justice. Hugs to you❤ Loriann Vaccola from Mount Pocono PA

Otto, surely you never, ever deserved the horror you endured! It is horrible that the world is filled with people who cannot understand the complete innocence and naive nature of young people. From the things I read online, you must have made the world a joyful place for your family, friends, and hometown.

Dear sweet young man - there are so many people around the world that became very upset after reading about your tragic circumstances. Don't worry-you now have the love and grace of God all around you! You will be reunited with your loved ones - one at a time. In the meantime, rest peacefully - you are in paradise!

Maybe someone in Wyoming remembers him. In any event, whenever we pass Wyoming High I always think of my special Uncle John. Now I will always remember your wonderful Otto. I haven't been able to get him and your family out of my heart for days. I can't imagine your pain. Such a wonderful, wonderful smart and fun kid. I pray that your family can find the strength to carry on! I just can't imagine how, but am praying for you!

May you rest in eternal peace, dear one, and may your family know the love of so many who are grieving with them about about this devastating loss.

May God grant Otto's family and beloved ones peace in this time of terrible grief and sadness. He was a bright light : may his legacy live on in the lives of the ones he loved, supported, encouraged ... made laugh, try harder, understand more. He is one with God and the angels now.

My heart aches at this tragic loss. I am so angry that our government didn't get him out sooner. I am so angry at the seemingly senseless loss. I do believe heaven is brighter tonight with your son there. I pray for you daily that you have the strength to endure this loss and experience comfort knowing that your son is now safe with God and wil never know pain again.

As the parent of a talented and lively teenage boy, I feel devestated for your family and the world, to have lost the bright light that was Otto. I can't image what you and your family have been through and I want you to know I am thinking of you and supporting you in this very difficult time. I think of you everyday. I'm sorry to say, but I'm still very angry at what has happened. It's just wrong in every sense. However, I am grateful Otto was allowed to be with those he loved in the end. He surely sensed the peace and love that surrounded him. He will live in our hearts always. It's a testament to who he was, that so many strangers have been profoundly affected by him in life and in death.

He is in God's hands now, free from pain and sorrow. My prayers for his family are that God give them the strength to go through this most difficult time. Dearest Fred, Cindy, Greta, and Austin,

It is with a very sad heart that we write to wish and offer all of you strength as you say goodbye to your dear son Otto. Honestly, this has been one of the most difficult pieces of writing I've ever had to do, but one of the greatest for to uplift Otto and all of you is not only a pleasure, it's an honor.

We met Fred and Austin at the Mark Wood Rock Orchestra camp a few years ago and became friends instantly. Fred's and Austin's descriptions of the great things Otto was doing only enhanced and solidified our friendship.

Since all of the revelations finally came to light in the last few months, we've been watching from afar, shocked, powerless, and saddened by the turn of events for Otto and your family.

Without a doubt, as a family, we understand the challenge, likely only to a nominal degree, that all of you are facing today.

Please accept our meager thoughts, love and prayers we offer today as a bond between us as friends and families, forever.

We hope and believe the loss of Otto will not be sad, but rather enlightening for he will become a beacon of hope and source of strength for those in the future any time someone needs such friendship or power to stand united and resolute through their individual challenges they face, just as Otto did, a Man Among Men, a Person anyone would be proud to know, let alone be. A Proud and Strong Human.

Love, strength, and friends for all of you, any time, always, and forever,

Bob, Qin, Tommy, and Shawna

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. My heart breaks for you.

I have a 22 yr old daughter that has done much traveling abroad during her college days. I always feared for her safety .... but I couldn't shelter her from doing what she loved.

I will forever remember Otto and keep him close to my heart, his zest and love for life that ended so tragic is something I will never understand.
Blessing to the Warmbier Family
I am glad he was home and in the arms of those who loved him.

My son, Brian Boyd and I extend our DEEPEST sympathies to you. Our hearts are broken! On September 19, 2013, we received the worst possible news that I as a mother (and Brian) could ever receive that my son, Michael Scott Boyd, age 34, had been killed while hitting head-on with a semi that morning. Our deepest love, thoughts, and prayers are with you all. We share your sorrow! May God bless you, and give you strength to carry on with each passing day! Our grief never goes away. We miss Mike more & more with each passing day! Brian & I don't know what happened, as your family doesn't; but "Sometime We'll Understand." And if we live for Jesus, when our journey on this earth ends, you will be reunited with Otto, as Brian & I will be with our precious son & brother, Michael, in Heaven above eternally! May God bless you all! Our deepest love - Phyllis & Brian Boyd

My name is Betsie, I live in
Baltimore, Md. My heart is bleeding, my soul is crying. Over a year ago I heard this on the news and knew it had to be a mistake and that he would be coming home soon. Last week when I saw the appalling condition of him coming home I cried. I couldn't comprehend it. In my heart I was truly hoping he would recover at home. What a beautiful young man and the horrors that became to him. He did not deserve this. I still can't comprehend how any living human could do this to anyone. I actually cried on the way home today. I will never forget this as long as I live. God bless you Otto, you did not deserve this, but one day we will all be up there too. I am so so sorry this happened to you my friend. I am a stranger and my heart will forever bleed for this horrific story. I know that god will take beautiful care of you up there. So long Otto, you have touched every heart in this nation and world.

This must be a huge and devastating loss for your family. I guess I'm at least comforted that his family had a few days to be with Otto and to be able to say their goodbyes. I feel Otto knew that he was safe and at home with his loving family. My thought and prayers are with Otto's family at this most tragic time. I'm SO sorry for your family's loss. SO very sad...

Rest in Peace, sweet boy. Let's hope your death was not in vain and something is done about the mistreatment you endured, unnecessarily, over the theft of a poster! A POSTER! So many prayed and wished for your safe return which was not to be. Although bittersweet, I'm sure it gave your family a bit of comfort to finally have you home and being able to hold your hand, kiss your forehead, and to say goodbye together. Your story touched my soul and I will hold my loved ones closer each day because of you.

When the Lord caught sight of her, [ the grieving mother] he was moved with pity for her, and he said to her: Stop weeping. With that he approached and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. Then he said: Young man, I say to you, get up! And the dead man sat up and started to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Please be assured of God's love and look forward to the time when Jesus will use his God given power to bring our love ones like Otto back to life under his Kingdom rule. Luke 7:13-15

May the angels lead him into Paradise. May the martyrs guide him on his way. May he see the face of the Lord this day. Alleluia, alleluia.

Lord Jesus, enfold him in your loving arms. Wipe every tear from his eyes. Give him rest, peace, and boundless joy. Blessed Mother, wrap him in your mantle. Holy angels and saints, welcome him to the fellowship of Heaven, a fellowship of love and grace, far removed from the sufferings of this earth. Jesus, comfort and console his family. Let them know that he is safe with You. Be with them in this terrible time. And someday, reunite them with their precious son in the endless bliss of Heaven.

I have been following the story since he got arrested in North Korea, I felt terrible when they sentenced him knowing he made a innocent mistake and didn't need to suffer such harshness by the north Koreans. I hoped that he would get out safe, I saw the other day that he was released and was very happy for him and his family, then I saw his condition and still hoped for the best. He is now safe with God and no one can harm him . A tragic loss but always remember all the good things and good times you had with him. Very sorry for your loss.

We have been so saddened by the news since Otto was returned to you. Thank you for sharing Otto with us over these last few days. He was a remarkable young man and though he shared a short time with us on this earth, he will be remembered by many for a long time. May your faith give you strength over these next days as you cope with life without him. We will continue to pray for all of you.

Dear Warmbier family:

Words cannot adequately express how deeply saddened I am at the passing of this beautiful spirit named Otto. I prayed daily for his safe return upon hearing of his story, and when learning of his condition, I prayed daily for him to recover.

As the mother of a 18 year old son who reminds me so much of Otto, I empathize with the pain his parents are experiencing, and my heart is breaking for them.

Though I am so glad he was able to come home to his family, it is bittersweet, because we should be celebrating not mourning. I now pray that he is at peace, and that his loving family can find the strength they need to continue as Otto would have wanted.

I am so deeply sorry for this unjust outcome. Please find some comfort in knowing how many lives Otto touched, even those of us who never had the honor of meeting such an amazing young man.

Most sincere condolences,

Rachael Mozier

This young man that died in North Korea, has fought the good fight, in the Lord my God's eyes. I knew his family when I was but a young child no more then 4 or 5. From what I can see, this man, Otto Warmbier has served his country faithfully and has been called by Jesus, to go home with Him. As a Cadet Fireman in training, I have a few words for the Warmbier family: God is Semper Fidelis! Which means in translation: God is always faithful, and He is faithful to you in this time. I have a memory of Otto. Mr. Warmbier and Mrs. Warmbier, I want to say that you and your family is in my family's prayers, and that this is something that, hopefully others will learn from this very sad time. I thank you for Otto's service to his country, and Thank you for everything that you maybe have done to America.

One last few words: Read or look up Psalms 23 for help in this time of need. This bible verse helped me when I was feeling like this as well, and I share your grief.

Thank you to the Warmbier family.

I know you and Otto only through the TV and newspapers. But even so my heart aches for the loss of this intrepid young man whom anyone would have been blessed and honored to call son.

For this young Romeo of life and adventure...

And when he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make he face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun

Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine. Et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace.

May God Bless And Comfort You
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.
At times like this when we don't know what to do
Just talk to God and he will see you through
When words sometimes just won't do and you don't know what to say
Just talk to God and let him have his way
When friends and family come and go
Just remember that God has an open door
At times like this when words alone won't do

I did not know Otto personally, but this am deeply moved and woken up by this young potential, blossoming bright beacon that he represented for his millennial global generation. His spirit represents the pioneering, wide eyed curiosity, and limitless possibilities that his generation imbues and sparks this cold world to life. His life as was his death was not in vain, God choose him to be a catalyst for something much bigger than our own humanity could retain at these times. I feel the heartbreak for this beautiful family and the lose. My prayers and love goes out to them during this time of healing and may we all grow in our humanity for the hope, and limitless possibilities that Otto's life represented, and that his courageous spirit now beholds in Heaven. May his soul rest in peace and rest in power.

I did not have the honor of knowing Otto nor your family. It is unfortunate to have had to learn of this intelligent young man through the awful circumstances he endured over the past year. I wish it had been different. However, my family has been touched by Otto's strength, love for his family, and his bravery. As my young daughter would say Otto truly was "Superman". As a parent I cannot comprehend the grief and sadness your family is enduring. Your family possesses such a great strength to get through this difficult time that would have made Otto so proud. I hope you find peace remembering your loving moments shared with your son. Sometimes reflecting on the best of times is the only thing to help us through the worst.
All my families hearts and prayers are with your family and with Otto at this time. Find comfort that he is no longer suffering and is in a better place surrounded by loved ones who have passed. I truly beleive he waited to come home and held onto that faith until it was time to move on from this world. He truly was "Superman".

Although a part of Otto is gone, there is so much that remains. Of course your pictures and videos of him will help. And as the days unfold you'll see and hear him in the words and actions of each other, his family, and his many friends. You'll hear many stories about him, some funny, some touching, and some telling of great effort followed by great success. His sibling(s) will have children and you'll see Otto in each of them, and you'll know that he is still with you. Because the truth is that nobody is truly gone until the last person who loved or respected him is gone...and Otto has touched the whole world deeply. But most of all, know that Otto is in a place where he is safe, and where nobody can ever hurt him again. May God bless and comfort each of you.

I had been following Otto's story in the news and immediately became very taken with him and the suffering he endured. I was equally taken with Otto's parents and their ability to focus on the love of their family and obvious adoration of their son. I can hardly breathe at the thought of being kept away from my child not knowing that he was in a coma for months on end. I cannot imagine the anguish. But I feel certain Otto waited to be reunited with the unbelievable love of his family before he made his journey heavenward. I am so thankful that Otto's parents and siblings got to talk to, spend time with, hold, and love him before his passing. At least there was mercy in that. Rest well , sweet young man. there is no permanent separation between a parent and a child.

I am saddened by the loss of Otto. I first came in contact with Otto through Theta Chi Xi Chapter alumni communications he sent. When I heard of his arrest, I was even more shocked. When I learned of his return to the United States, I was hopeful that he might get beneficial treatments. I am sad to learn of his poor condition and now his death. I wish you peace in this horrible time but I fear, being a father myself, that time may never come. I will pray to God that it in time does. I hope the funeral is a date and time I can attend. I suspect many Xi Chapter brothers and alumni would like to attend.

My condolences,

Stephen Lee

To Otto's Family:
From your description of Otto's change from a look of anguish to a look of peace, I have no doubt he knew he was in the loving arms of his family at last. Our loved ones in comas DO hear us and recognize us. Though Otto was unable to express himself verbally, his face said it all.

I so greatly admire the love you have had for Otto. You have my deepest sympathy. I'm so glad you were able to comfort him in his last days.

To the Warmbier family and friends, I offer you my thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathy in your time of loss. No parent ever thinks their children will pass before they do, and this pain I'm sure is unbearable. May the many loving memories and countless accomplishments Otto performed during his short stay on earth give you warmth, strength and comfort. Our faith tells us that though undeserving as humans are, God's son made it possible to enter the gates of Heaven if we accept Jesus as Our Lord and Savior, pick up our cross and follow him. I firmly believe this promise and I further believe that Otto accepted his cross, and now is in Heaven with the angels and saints. This should be a sign to us that we too can join him one day by loving our neighbors as ourselves and carrying our cross and follow God's commandments.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and may the perpetual light shine upon him. Rest in peace, Otto. God bless all of you.

Please accept my deepest condolences for the tragic loss of your son. I am so bewildered by the inhumanity he was exposed to. But it seems clear that once he made the journey home, and was in the presence of his loving family - he felt safe to move on. You are in my prayers.

As someone who grew up in Ohio and now the parent of children close to Otto's age, I have felt so much compassion for you during the past year--which I know was difficult beyond words. Now I am brokenhearted for the loss of your precious Otto. I can't imagine the pain you have experienced during your separation from him and now with his passing. Please know that parents and caring Americans across the country are sharing in your grief and praying that you find peace, and that he has found peace as well. I pray that God's love and the love of family and friends brings you comfort. If only words could help you to heal. Please accept my very sincere condolences.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Warmbier family. I was so sorry to hear of Otto's passing. There are people that I have never met but their passing is so very sad and Otto is one.

When any one of us is injured, we are all injured. We are many parts but one body. I do not know Otto but have not been able to stop thinking about him since finding out his condition since he came back home. He begged for his life in front of cameras on my birthday, feb 29 1960. I feel such anger. I just listened to his salutatorian speech at his high school graduation. The human race lost a precious man. Thank you to his mom and dad for sharing his short life with us.

To the Warmbier Family,
with deep sadness I just had heard the news about your beloved son, relative and friends passing.
It had been an unbelievable inhumanity what this innocent young man had to endure.
May justice rain.
Heavenly peace to Otto and comfort to his family.

Dear Warmbier family and friends, I know of you by watching news reports. I remember seeing him in North Korea when he cried. I cannot comprehend how he felt in utter despair. I hoped he would recover some how. But I do believe in God and that Otto is now is in complete fruition with God and all of us who knew Otto for a few hours or you who have loved him from his birth. I send you all prayers and I will never forget him.
