Tribute & Message From The Family

Warren Canova Pawcatuck- Warren Nicholas Canova, age 80, of Pawcatuck, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the Westerly Hospital. He was born in Norwich on July 17, 1937, the son of Aldo and Mary Amato Canova. He was predeceased in June by his partner of 32 years, Luane Lange of Niantic. He is survived by his children, Robert P. Canova of Stonington (Carol) and their child, Nicole; Debra Woodworth of Georgetown, S.C. and her child Justin (Elise) of Herndon, V.A. and their children Elizabeth, Josephine and Rebecca; Nicholas J. Canova (Angela) of Avon and their children Julia and Marisa; Janet Garcia of Surfside, S.C. and her son Trevor Garcia; Eric J. Canova of Georgetown, S.C. and his children Mackenzie and Evyn; He was predeceased by his son Steven D. Canova. He is also survived by his partner’s children, Lisa Rue (Robert Waterman) and their children Clara and Graham Waterman-Rue of East Bridgewater, M.A.; Melinda (Fred) Bates and their children Derek and Carter of East Greenwich, R.I.; Randall Rue (Kara Kahler) and their children Leo, Mia and Abby Rue of Seattle, W.A.; Krista Mingo and her children Tyler and Samantha of Niantic. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Canova of Norwich and Lawrence Canova of Griswold, and was predeceased by a brother Albert Canova. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was retired from a career of almost 40 years at the Electric Boat Company in Groton where he had been employed as a Rigger and Rigger Supervisor, directing complex construction of Navy submarines. After he retired, Warren volunteered for many years at CRIS Radio reading to the blind, winning Volunteer of the Year awards for his dedicated service. Warren loved to cook, exchange witty banter, entertain family and friends and spend time listening to great music, watch good movies, whistle and take long car rides. He was an incredible fly fisherman, avid marksman, and gifted dart thrower. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic followed by interment in Old Stone Cemetery, Niantic. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Norwich Free Academy Art Department to the Steven Daryl Canova Scholarship Fund. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Westerly Hospital for the compassionate care, support and kindness that they showed to Warren and to them over these last few months of his life.
