Richard Thomas Cooney, Jr., 59, of Mechanicsburg passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at his residence. Richard was born on July 14, 1958 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Richard T. Cooney, Sr. and Barbara (Smith) Cooney. Before Rich worked as an electrician, he bravely served his country in the U.S. Navy. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara (Smith) Cooney and his sister, Colleen Hamilton. Surviving are his father, Richard Cooney, Sr.; his son, Richard Cooney, Jr. of West Virginia; his daughter, Ashley Cooney of West Virginia; his two brothers, Larry Cooney and his wife Sherri of Harrisburg and Christopher Cooney and his wife Jean of St. Carlos, CA and his sister, Amy Snow and her husband Glen of Dublin, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the Cooney family kindly requests that donations be made in Richard’s name to the American Cancer Society by going online to https://donate3.cancer.org. Rich was a very nice and generous man! He will be missed. I loved listening to all the great stories he told me at the VFW! he touched many lives. I'm thankful to have known him! May he Rest In Peace!
