Condolence & Memory Journal

Bill was the heart of the Lundquist Society when I joined, having led the Society for many years. I will be forever grateful for his wit and wisdom and for the way he welcomed me into the Society and kept all of us gathering each semester. Bill and I shared a deep commitment to civic and political engagement, which is another reason I had long admired him and was grateful to get to know him better through the Lundquist Society. Bill was eager to see the Lundquist Society thrive and grow and to see us do useful things for our campus and community. When we gather this spring we will lift a glass to Bill, share fond memories of our colleague and friend, and discuss how we might proceed in realizing his vision for our Society. He loved teaching and sharing ideas. His passion for learning and engagement made every gathering more informative, enjoyable, and worthwhile. We will miss his presence at our table. We will continue to be guided by the vision he laid out for us and the bonds he fostered during his time as Convener and President. Yet our fellowship will never be the same.

Bill was a wonderful man who helped, advised, and coached us to success at the Central Academy and Juvenile Justice Center, Kathleen, I called your home for Bill's help way too often. You both were so patient. We were out of town or I would have been at Bill's service. Love to you and your family. The whole community will miss Bill a lot.

To you, Kathleen, and your extended family, my sincere condolences on the loss of a truly remarkable guy.

If ever a gender remake of H.C. Andersen's, "The Prince & The Pea", central casting would choose Bill for the lead role. Never short an opinion, whether you agreed or not, he could push the 'hot button' of the political elite....in 25 words or less.

A courageous informant for the misinformed.

On our return, I, along with Mrs. Wilson, will be by to take his beloved Harry for commemorative walks on the prince's court.

Bill was certainly a memorable guy! Anyone who went to Central in the late 50's and early 60's knew his name. His was a life well-lived. Love and Hugs on your continuing journey...
