Mrs. Jane Byrd Carswell, 71, of Drexel passesed away on Sunday August 11, 2019 at Catawba Valley Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Carswell was born July 24, 1948 in Burke County, a daughter of the late John Byrd and Mary Brittain Byrd Bradshaw. She was a member of Valdese First Baptist Church and retired the Dean of Business from Western Piedmont Community College.
Surviving are her son, Chris Carswell and wife Megan of Newton, her daughter, Gretchen Holden and husband Scott of Morganton and her brother Bud Byrd and wife Taru of Drexel. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Taylor Holden, Josh Holden, Madi Carswell, Christon Carswell, Andrew Carswell, Lily Thompson, Noah Thompson and a great-grandchild Marlie Mojica.
Funeral Services for Jane Byrd "Tootie" Carswell will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday August 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Elden Hinegardner officiating. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Service.

Jane was my dean for many years. She was so caring and always open to new ideas. Our Business Division was like a big family.

So sorry for your loss. Jane was a great lady. I grew up knowing her at First Baptist in Valdese. She will be missed.

Jane was a tenant of mine several years ago. She was always the nicest person. I enjoyed getting to know her- she will be missed. Peace and comfort to her family.
