Dan was a very kind person. I hope his family takes comfort in knowing that he had such a good heart and helped so many. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

In the +25 years that I knew Dan, I met very few people that measured up to his generosity, kindness and commitment to helping others. Dan loved everything about Knoxville and supported local artists of all genres. Even though I relocated to the DC area I kept in touch with Dan; we would meet to catch up over lunch or dinner. It was such an honor to know him. Knoxville definitely lost one of its native sons!

I had the honor to be able to work in the same law firm as Dan for 6 and half years. Dan was always so nice and very helpful. Dan was a great man and will be missed a lot. Rest In Peace. See you again one day!

How do I choose just one memory to share? How do say goodbye to a person that lit up a room with his presence? You can't... you just can't. So my dear friend I will not say goodbye, I will not choose a single memory to share here. Instead I will share those memories with friends and together we will laugh, cry and toast to you. We will not say goodbye instead we will say see you later, as we all know you will greet us when we arrive to that next destination just as you greeted us when you were here with us. Besides you will never really be far from us as you will live forever in the hearts of so many people. Dan, Thank you for your kindness & your genuine friendship. For being a person that no matter where you were in life, at the bottom struggling, in the middle just making ends meet or on top of the world living the dream... you made every single person feel like they were the most important person you had talked to and at that moment... they were. So I hope that you felt the same way, because you were.

Dan, I would not be where I am now if not for you. I'm thankful for the guidance you gave me and, most of all, the lifelong friendship you offered. You will be missed by many.

Being from a small town, Paris, Tennessee, and attending school with the same friends year after year, Dan leaves many former classmates who loved him and will miss his presence when we meet together for reunions. For those of you that do not know E. W. Grove High School, our 1962 graduating class had only 113 students. Most of us had been together since first grade. Dan's death, as others from our group, leaves voids that cannot be filled. We will miss you!

Mr. McGehee was literally a father figure to my twin sister and I. Dan tried to adopt us many many years ago. He will be deeply missed. Gone but not forgotten. Always in our hearts. Prayers for Peace.

Dan was my personal attorney and friend for most of my time in East Tennessee. I always found him to be professional and a good friend of mine through numerous events!

I am sorry that I lost touch with him but I am sure he will be well remember for all his good deeds.

As a young attorney, I found Dan a friendly and welcoming member of the bar offering guidance and mentoring. He practiced law the way it should be with dignity and professionalism. As an avid watch admirer and collector, Dan frequented my watch shop and tried to find ways to sustain that business. Dan was a person that had a sense of community and knew the importance of supporting local business and causes. Knoxville has lost a valuable member of our legal and business community.

Dan was instrumental in recruiting my son, Led Gardner III into Pi Kappa Alpha at UT. My son had a great four years as a Pike, and I lived vicariously thru those years because I had been a Pike at Duke. The fraternity even allowed me to participate in my son's initiation. I am grateful to Dan for his guidance of the fraternity and for enabling my son and I to have a great four years as "fraternity brothers."
