Dear Olivia, I am grateful for the many fine movies you made, especially the ones with your sweetheart, Errol Flynn, and for living an exemplary life here on earth. You are one of my female role models because you were strong and fearless, yet remained a lady. Thank you for the lovely note you sent me from your home in Paris many years ago, and the autographed photos. My sympathies to your family, friends, and fans. I hope that you and Errol are finally reunited in Heaven, and are catching up while sipping champagne together somewhere. Rest well, angelic, beautiful Olivia.

A truly inspirational woman of her era, who was loved by everyone and her legacy will live on for decades. Mrs De Havilland stood from the crowd and taught so much to young aspiring actors and actresses. She will be extremely missed and is no doubt sipping champagne in heaven right now. A life well spent XXX

What a remarkable movie career Olivia de Havilland had in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Robin Hood, and, of course, Gone With the Wind, among her many other films. I never met this fine actress and fine lady, but with her passing a part of the Hollywood of the past is gone. But thank goodness for Turner Classic Movies and for her great performances that will still be available for all of us to enjoy.

Tribute to Olivia de Havilland By: Will Barber
Your pretty eyes and beautiful smile captivated movie-going audiences for over half a century.
Though you entered a male-dominated field, your perseverance and integrity enabled you to succeed.
At first, you were seen as an almost child-like actress with varying degrees of innocence.
However, you proved to the world that you were more than just a sympathetic character.
Nevertheless, your life and art mirrored each other in many ways.
Though your Character Melanie in 'Gone With the Wind' died in the film, you remained the last surviving Adult Cast Member.
Like Melanie, through all the ups and downs of life, you took everything with a smile and, as you said, "One must take what comes, with laughter."
In this crazy and hectic world, I think we could all note Melanie's example in 'Gone With the Wind'.
Melanie felt compassion for everyone, including her enemies. Even those she disagreed with, she did not shun. Most importantly, she lived for one thing, and that was love.
One may find it surprising that a man such as me, who is attracted to the testosterone-driven nature of Professional Wrestling and Horror films, could admire you. However, it is the balance of emotion that you portrayed in many of the characters that I found intriguing and your perseverance through life's struggles.
You fought hard to the end and lived over a century.
Though you may no longer be with us, your films are still here to view until the end of time.
You embodied the Golden Age of Hollywood and specific time on this earth.
A time, that like all different periods, stays with us through film and entertainment, but like anything, one day, it is simply GONE WITH THE WIND!!!
RIP Olivia de Havilland!!!

I think I have watched every movie Olivia de Havilland has ever made and I still watch her when her movies are haired especially on TCM. I think she was one of the greatest actresses who ever lived. She still looked great in her mature years. To her remaining family and all of her fans we will truly miss her. I offer my sincere sympathy. May God be with those that grieve this loss.

To the havilland family: I want to offer my deepest sympathy on the passing of such a brilliant actress. More Importantly, I admired her performance
In Gone With The Wind where she potrayed Melanie Wilkes who is dying. May god rest her soul that this great lady went to heaven to be with Clark Gable and the gorgeous Vivian Leigh. She was here with us 104 years , a time
God gave her. Ms. Olivia will be truly missed.

The "legend" of legends. A wonderfully talented actor/actress who had a career that was not only spectacular, but also a pinnacle of success. Fought when she had to, bit her tongue to keep the peace, and was immaculate always. Olivia you will be SO missed! Time for a sequel with all the major characters featured in GWTW in heaven. I always thought it so sweet that the original Marian from "Robin Hood was still alive. She certainly lived a long life; I hope it was a good one. I wonder why she lived in Paris. Where was her birth, was she ever married, had children what was her life like beyond Hollywood?

As an American from Laurinburg, North Carolina, I just wanted to express the South's gratitude to Mrs. de Havilland for playing so superbly the role of Melanie Wilkes, the Southern gentle woman, in Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind. For millions of Southern children, Mrs. de Havilland was the quintessence of Southern gentility, everything that we love about the South, charm, grace, courtesy and genuine Christian compassion and goodness. So many Southern parents named their new born daughters Melanie, after they had seen the movie. For example, my uncle John and aunt Gladys named their daughter Melanie. Their daughter was born in 1960, and, great fans of the movie, they named their daughter Melanie Todd in remembrance of Melanie Hamilton Wilkes in Gone with the Wind, in the hope that she would grow up to be as kind and compassionate as Melanie in the movie. And indeed, my cousin Melanie, of Cherryville, North Carolina, is just like that. We shall all greatly miss you, Mrs. de Havilland. However, we shall continue to enjoy your many wonderful films. Your talents and your beauty will be so richly missed. The angels are singing a sweet song now that you have returned home, to heaven! Rest in Holy Peace with Jesus. ♥♥ I will always remember your great works and beauty!

A great actress who will be surely missed. I have watched her movies numerous times. Her elegance graced the screen. The other cast members and her made a movie that, in that particular time, showed dedication and treated all actors, black and white, with dignity and professionalism. Times were hard back then and Olivia de Havilland, Clark Gable, Vivian Leigh, and Leslie Howard transported us, movie viewers, to an era longer forgotten and unheard of and an era of sacrifices made by all. She will be missed but will be greeted at the gates in heaven by her cast mates.
