Mike and I served together from 1971-1972 as "Black Hats" on the administrative staff Headquarters Headquarters Company (HHC) U.S. Army 82nd ABN Div., Schools Detachment. When he ETS'd out I took his senior staff position. He and I were for a very short time roommates as i leased his off post residence after he left. I knew Mike as an outstanding SP5 leader of our office . We often teased him about his ballroom dancing but he sure got us back by skillfully taking our money come payday. LOL. I wish to give my deepest condolences to his family. I SALUTE an outstanding paratrooper of "Esprit de Corps". An honor to have known him.

us as he truly was a very personable and classy person.

I had the pleasure to meet Mike on several occasions. Last time I traveled to Vegas, Mike treated myself and a friend to a wonderful dinner at Hugo’s Cellar. He was so generous with his time. Mike was not only a great ambassador to the game of poker but he was just a great guy. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Rest In Peace my fellow Buckeye.

I watched him as commentator and player and couldn't believe a kinder man with naturally controlled emotions, a man that enjoyed life. He said that people that dances enjoy life. Such a gentle man. The world is emptied losing civility.

Poker wouldn’t be where it’s at today
without MIKE SEXTON. His commentary, his presence is what made me enjoy poker the most. With him gone I feel like someone took a piece of poker off the table. When you turn that tv on and hear his voice you knew that there was good poker going on. REST IN PEACE MIKE SEXTON. In heaven may all your cards be live and pots be monsters.
Our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family may god give you continuous strength and healing in your hearts.

Mike never forgot his friends. We have been friend since 7th grade competing with each other in trampoline. We both got scholarships to Ohio state gymnastics team. He tried to teach me to play cards but I was not good. I pushed him to go make his life in cards, he brought his special personality to Vegas and did a lot to bring the sport to its highest level. He just sent me his fabulous book and it shows how much of his personality carried over to world of cards. Thank God he enjoyed the last few years with his son. He always talked about him. I remember Mike from when he was in high school at Fairmont and then Fairmont East in Kettering , Ohio. Both Mike and his brother Tom were great gymnast and helped Fairmont East win the state championship the year they both graduated. What a great guy Mike was. I will never forget all the time I spent with him helping him develop his routines for competitions. Rest in peace my friend.

One of my personal poker heroes. A guy my age taking it to the youngsters and "learnin'em how it's done". Elegant and refined, well dressed and dignified at all times. A great symbol that poker players should all seek to emulate.

I watched and learned from Mike. Then one day I had the opportunity to play at the same table I apologized for any mistakes I might make as I was a new player. ;after he told me he didn't believe me, that my begging game was good, my middle game was flawless but it wasn't until I was down to the final couple tables he believed me, he gave me pointers and recommendations how how to improve my game. I went on to play at the same table with Mike a number of times and when ever I would see him he would remember me. I always looked forward to running into him, watching his play and ready to listen to his wisdom on the game. He will be truly missed. I know there will be an emptiness felt on the WPT that can't be filled but with loving memories of Mikes kindness and great commentary. What genuine person and a class act.

I play poker today in part due to the writings and commentary by the legend Mike Sexton. He was an inspiration. I hope one day to play at a level he played but he played the game at a level I could never understand completely. I will always remember you Mr. Sexton.
