September 9, 2020 addiction claimed yet another life, Jason Nathaniel Perlmutter. Only 44 when he died, Jason struggled with his sobriety for well over 20 years. Be that as it may, his addiction still in no way defined him and those who were with him during his times of sobriety were lucky enough to see the amazing person he was. The last 7 years of his life he spent with Susan Simmons and her children Jaxson and Maddox who he loved like they were his own. To say Jason was a talented artist would be an understatement. His natural skill on a skateboard was just as fun and entertaining to watch. Jason was kind, generous, thoughtful and even when the odds were stacked against him he still fought. Jason was active in the Narcotics Anonymous program and the Chesterfield Harp program always encouraging other addicts and helping them through their own dark times. This was who he was. Sharing his story in the hopes that it may help another addict, even in death is one of the many things that he can be defined by, not his addiction.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a friend of Jason’s from high school. I remember his creativity and passion for skateboarding. I am grateful that I got to spend time with him then doing something we both love.

Candle

Jason was a student of mine during his primary grades. He was a bright, caring, and a joy to have in the classroom. I always enjoyed having Jason in our classroom because all the children called you their friend. And you were definitely loved by me! My love and prayers always, Jason. Rest in peace! Mary and Alan, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Jason letting me tag along when we were little and teaching me to play video games. He was a great guy.

I am so sorry to hear of Jason's passing. He was the first friend I made when I moved to Virginia in high school. I have many treasured memories of making artwork, listening to music, going to school dances with Jason. He was such a positive person and he will be missed.
