Condolence & Memory Journal

I have just learned of the death of Helen Reddy and I'm shocked, and as a mature man I don't mind admitting I shed a few tears I've been a fan of hers since I saw her in Pete's dragon in 1975, since then I have collected all her albums, shipping the ones I couldn't get in the UK from America, and even cancelled my Holiday back in 1992 to see her in concert In London. She was a wonderful singer with a rich and distinctive voice, her songs have given me (as with all her fans) great pleasure over the years and have helped me through some dark times in my life, a particular favorite, Candle on the Water. She will be missed by her family, all who knew her on a personal level, and of course her fans, she will live on in her films, her music and our hearts. God bless Helen may you rest in Peace.

Her music gave me the courage and inspiration to pursue a career in the Air Force as a commissioned officer, to obtain a Master's degree and to be comfortable in my own skin. That it was ok to be a professional and delay marriage and children until I was in my 30s. And it would have also been fine to be single. A great voice has been silenced. My condolences and prayers to her family. Thank you for sharing this remarkable woman with the world!

Wow... So sorry to hear this. May you rest in peace, Helen. Growing up to your music was more than words can express. You were my favorite female vocalist. I remember still to this day, (I am 52 now) going on a road trip with my mother from Washington State all the way to Visalia, CA and would flip between stations trying to find your music from your new album at that time, with Angie Baby, etc. I loved all your songs but probably my most favorite was Peaceful. You're an inspiration to us females who love to sing! You were a part of my childhood, my father was a musician and always sang your song, Delta Dawn. You were also a part of my teen years, as well. Thank you for being a part of my life, I'll never forget you. Rest in peace, Helen...♥

My deepest condolences to Ms. Reddy's family and friends. I was 10 years old in 1971 when her records started being played on the radio. I was just starting to get into music and listening to records. I would spend hour after hour in my bedroom as a pre-teen/teenager listening to her records and singing along with her. I had them all. I still know all the words to "I Am Woman”, “Delta Dawn”, "Angie Baby”, “Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress),” and “You and Me Against the World”. RIP dear Helen and thank you for the great music and memories.

I have been a fan since I bought the 45 record ‘Delta Dawn’. I own everyone of her records and saw her 4 times in concert. Twice in the 70s, once was America’s Bicentennial in Buffalo. Once in the 80s in Toronto and the final time in 2013. She was such an amazing person and singer. I was so saddened by her passing. I played You and Me Against the World at my mother’s funeral. I read her book and watched the movie Tuesday (had no idea she had passed away). And now the journey has come to an end. Thank you so much for everything. You will never be forgotten, you made so many happy. With love from a Canadian fan.

I would like to convey my most sincere condolences to Helen's children and her granddaughter, as well as all those who are mourning Helen's passing. Although I never met Helen Reddy, I felt like she was my family. As an 11 year old girl living in a very small town in Northern Ontario, Canada, my Grade 5 teacher Miss Preston brought her record player into our class and played Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman" and she let all the young girls in our class know that they could get a great education and become anything we wanted to be. Back then it was usually only the boy's that got to go to any type of post-secondary education. I made up my mind right there and then that I was going to have a great career...I even fought with my dad about it....and I had to earn my own way..but, I did it. Your mom made changed the world for millions of women around the world. Helen Reddy your have truly left a huge imprint in this world and your legacy will live on forever. You were taken from this world too soon. I will miss you forever and honour your memory always.

Helen,
How sweet the sound Heaven must be enjoying. Thank from the bottom of my heart for sharing your talents with the world. You see, you are responsible for some of my dearest memories. Way back in the early 70's, your songs were loved and adored by my Mother. I can recall the crackling AM radio sound coming out of the center dash speaker in that '67 Cougar, as my dear Mother drove my brother and I around town, running errands and enjoying long summer days together, singing your songs. Your beauty and angelic voice were a mainstay and enriched the lives of an entire generation. May God richly bless your family and close friends with peace, knowing you are singing loud and proud. You will be missed, but never forgotten. "And when one of us is gone, and one of us is left to carry on, then remembering will have to do, our memories alone will get us through, Think about the days of me and you, of you and me against the world. God Bless

Extending heartfelt condolences and prayers of comfort to the family. Like so many others her song " I am woman " was an inspiration to me & my daughter. We sang that song on many road trips together , as well as times we needed a boost to accomplish something & either of us would just sing the phrase " I am woman " & we'd smiled & push ourselves & do it. A rare and beautiful lady , she will be missed. She will live on through her music for now. I pray that God soften your grief during this difficult time.

I've always loved Helen Reddy's voice - the first time I heard her on the radio she sang "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar. No one else could have done it any better, it became 'hers' because of her talent. Her hits were always on the radio during my pre-teen and teen years, and we are sorry to hear that she has passed. Our sincerest condolences to her family. She will be one of the brightest stars in the sky, just as she was on earth. God's peace.

To the family: Thank you for sharing your special mom with the world. Helen's voice, music, and artistry has been the soundtrack of my life in many ways. Her phrasing and story-telling through song is really unparalleled and her voice is uniquely recognizable from the beginning of a song. She brought smiles and joy to so many of us who appreciated her ability to her authentic self to her work. I send you my sincere condolences and hope you know that your mom touched so many of us in profound ways--cheering us up in sad times, lifting our voices in song in happy times, and reminding how the power of music and art helps create a resilient spirit.
