Tribute & Message From The Family

Charles Fletcher Carter Jr. was born to Charles F. Carter and Annie Pearl Hood Carter on August 7, 1922 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He passed away on November 25, 2009. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1940. Shortly after that he joined and spent six years in the US Army Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic and Pilot. Two of those years were spent in China as a Pilot in the 14th Air Force, during WWII. After the war he enrolled at Utah State University in Logan, UT, graduating in 1950. He also took a part time job as a B-29 Mechanic at Hill Air Force base near Ogdem, UT. He was busy! So—now is a good time for a nice girl to show up, and she did!! He became acquainted with Dorothy Lichfield. Their relationship grew and finalized with their marriage on December 29, 1949. Following along with his work, which had now become the Petroleum Pipeline business, they migrated toward the Great Northwest. Settling for a time in Baker City, OR. There, the first two of six children were born. Two boys, John and David. As a family now, they continued on to the Northwest, settling in Pasco, WA. With the help of the Lord they completed their life's work there. Four more children came – To bless the family in Pasco, Dorothy Anne, Rebecca Lea, Kim Nolan and Michael Eugene. We tried to guide them all in their various endeavors during their formative years, but with an eye to the future that they would be ready to enter there as productive people. This was no easy task. However, on rare occasions we did have some success. But---so much for family history. Chuck was an avid tennis player. He spent many enjoyable hours on the courts. He also had a great interest in cross country hiking and back packing. He took many cross country trails through our Western Mountains. Chuck is survived by six children: John C. (Vicki) Carter of Walla Walla, David L. Carter of Pasco, Dorothy A. (Jim) Blair of Snoqualmie, Rebecca L. (Jim) DeVaney of Seattle, Kim N. Carter of Saxonia, N.J., and Michael E. (Leah) Carter of Kennewick. He is also survived by long time companion Martha Nipper, nine grand children: Ryan, Jared & Tyler Carter, Kit Carter, Charlie & Cody Blair, Heather Carter, Aidan & Avery Carter; Four great-grandchildren Caden & Peyton Carter, Hunter & Avery Carter. His wife preceded him in death. Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 1PM at First Christian Church in Pasco. Inurnment will be at City View Cemetery at a later date.
