Tribute & Message From The Family

Dr. Tony I. "Reskie" Oreskovich passed away suddenly on December 28, 2010, at the age of 75. Preceded in death by his parents, Orma and Berry Oreskovich, he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rosalie; children, Dr. Tony G. (Celeste) Oreskovich, Mark Oreskovich, Mary Oreskovich (Richard Warner), and Susan (Ken) Gornick; cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Jakob, Olivia and Molly Oreskovich, and Paul Joseph Gornick; numerous cousins and many dear friends. A football and baseball standout at Pueblo Catholic High School, Tony also excelled on the diamond at Regis University. He graduated from the Creighton University School of Dentistry and served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. For 50 years, Tony stood beside the dental chair, treating his patients with compassion – as recently as one week before his death. He was devoted and loyal to those patients, his friends, his staff, and above all, his family. Reskie never backed down from a challenge, and to his last breath, never complained. The legacy of his hands and heart shines in the smiles of countless Puebloans, and through the beautiful stained-glass windows he created throughout the city. His extraordinary life force was deeply felt and will be sorely missed. Visitation, from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, Montgomery & Steward Funeral Home. Mass, 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, St. Joseph Parish, 1145 S. Aspen Rd. in Blende. Interment to follow, Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests that contributions be made to the St. Joseph Parish New Building Fund or Evolution Baseball through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo, CO 81003. Online condolences, MontgomerySteward.com

My heart aches for all of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. He was so special! Dr. Tony passed just days before my mom, Dorothy Skerjanec, passed. My daughter, Nicole (Hobson) Quintana, 9 months pregnant, due on New Years Eve, called to tell me the news. We were all so very saddened. I told my mom, who was in the Life Care Center at that time. God called Dorothy home on New Year's Eve. Because arrangements needed to be made for mom & Nicole gave birth to a beautiful baby girl that following Monday, I didn't have a moment to offer my sincerest condolences to you and all of your family. So now it is time. Because of Dr. Tony, all of my children, now adults, have beautiful smiles and very fond memories of this cute little guy with lots of BIG HUGS for his patients... I know that Heaven has two beautiful new Angels! God Bless All of You, Doris (Skerjanec) Reid

I didn't learn of Dr. O's passing until this morning at the office. I cried through my dental cleaning. I loved that man so much. I have only been a patient for about 2 months, but from the minute he came in to meet me I was in love. The forehead kisses, the hugs and gentle voice made me feel like my dad was there. I send my love, my prayers to all his family, all the awesome staff at the Dental Office, and all of the patients who will miss him so much.I cried all the way home just thinking I won't see him until we meet in heaven. God Bless You Dr. O. With Love, Gail French

Dr. Tony and his son took care of my son Anthony Gratton during his years in high school and college even though he lived in California. He always wanted to see Dr. Tony for his dental care when he came to visit me. After he graduated from college and was on his own Anthony often asked me about Dr. Tony and recalled how much fun it was to see him when he visited. My Anthony died 18 months ago due to a heart condition. I’m sure he was one of the people who welcomed Dr. Tony to Paradise. Thank you Dr. Tony. My condolences to the family.

Posted by Vince Gratton (Rossi) - Pueblo, CO   January 02, 2011

To The Oreskovich Family, I just want to send my sincere condolences to you at this sad time. Dr. Tony Sr gave me my first opportunity in the dental field, and I always knew I was learning from the best. From how to make a patient feel like a member of the family, to how to adequately keep the mirror out of the way, Dr. Tony was always giving of himself. I used his common sense advice a lot in hygiene school and subsequently in private practice. Although my time in the office wasn't long, the lessons he taught about life in general will last a lifetime.

Dr. Tony had such a kind and gentle soul. I looked forward to seeing him on our dental visits knowing he'd always stop to ask how everyone was doing and give me a hug. He was such a genuine loving person. We appreciate the gentle care from both Dr. Tony Sr and Jr all these years and will miss Sr's easy going, relaxed way of making everyone feel valued and loved.

Some of our fondest memories of living on University Cir. in Pueblo, were those of being neighbors of the Oreskovich family. Tony was so loved by everyone and will be missed. He was quite the craftsman, and if George (Hayes) was ever in need of borrowing an occasional tool, Tony was the first one asked. I remember all the beautiful cedar interior, the stained glass, etc. that kept Tony busy whenever he had spare time. It has been 30 years since our family moved away, but we have many cherished memories of when our children were growing up in that neighborhood. Tony was a great dad and friend to all the little ones!

We (and our daughter, Lori) had every intention of driving down this morning for the funeral; however, the overnight snow storm made that impossible. Our son, Michael, was able to attend; and he just called to say the church was overflowing. Of course, it would be... Tony deserved that!

Our deepest sympathy to your family, and may God bless you all.

The first time Tony peered into my mouth was in 1964. I was 19 years old. He was warm, friendly, & compassionate from day one; and the best darned dentist I've ever visited.
In later life Dr.O became my stained glass teacher. He helped me create some beautiful art, and we had so much fun doing it. Rosalie was always there lending her loving support to us, not to mention her goodies.
Tony has left a huge imprint on my life. I am better for having known him. He will be missed more than imaginable.
My love and sympathy to the family.

Years ago when we were living in San Francisco my wife and I were looking for a dentist when she told me about her dentist back in Pueblo. How he knew how to administer the novacaine so it never hurt. I found it hard to believe there was a painless dentist but I had no reason to doubt her. When we moved back to Colorado and begin seeing Tony I was amazed that her stories were true. He was much more than the painless dentist he was also a wonderful person and a great friend. I cannot imagine a world without Tony but, God must have had a terrible toothache and needed the best dentist, so he sent for him.

Besides being one of the men, other than my father, that I most admired, Dr. T. was one of the nicest and kindest men I've ever known. One of my fondest memories that I like to tell is of my early days as a patient of his. I used to smoke and he'd bring me a cup of coffee and an ash tray and let me smoke a cigarette and drink coffee while I was waiting in the dentist chair! Unlike most dental visits, going to Dr. T. was always a pleasant experience. I will miss him and be grateful for the wonderful memories he created for my family and me.

His ability to make you feel comfortable and special every time you saw him, he would tell us stories of my Mother & Father and always ask how they were, He reminded me in many ways of my own father, a perfect gentleman. Our love and prayes are with you all.

Tony, you were taken too early. The world so needs your laughter, your love and your talent. I have known you for as long as I have had teeth. I was just a kid, when my dad brought me into your office well over forty years ago. No dentist since has ever measured up. Its because I wasn't just going to the dentise, I was sharing time with someone who always cared about me and my family. My teeth and my heart will never be the same.

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart!” This quote from Helen Keller reminds me of Tony--he was all heart and he made you feel like you were the only person in the room when he talked with you---he was never too busy to ask about you and your family--never too busy to share a snack or chat about the old days---never too busy for all of the people he loved and held dear---no words can express our grief at the loss of someone so very special--our forever love to his wonderful family and know he will always have a place in our hearts and prayers.
