Dorothea Hilts, 88, Sloan, Iowa passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at
Touchstone Living Center, under Hospice Care, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Holly
Springs Bible Fellowship Church in rural Holly Springs, Iowa with Pastor
James Thomas and Pastor Kody Killian officiating. Burial will be in
Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be at Community Church of Christ in
Sloan, Iowa at 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7:00
P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service at
Onawa, Iowa.

Dorothea was born October 10, 1922 in rural Holly Springs, Iowa, the
daughter of Lewis O. and Elizabeth Jane (McLarty) Clift. Following
graduation from Holly Springs Consolidated School, she attended Wayne
State Teacher's College until 1942.

Dorothea began her teaching career at Quimby followed by Sloan, Salix and
Sioux City, Iowa and then returned to Salix where she completed 38 years
of teaching. During that time, she furthered her education at
Morningside College, Sioux City obtaining a BA Degree in 1960 and a
Master's Degree in 1971.

Dorothea was united in marriage to James Arthur "Tim" Hilts at Holly
Springs June 11, 1947. The couple farmed in rural Salix for many years
and retired to Sloan in 1985. Tim passed away November, 1995.

She was a member of Community Church of Christ at Sloan and was active on
the Church Board as well as the Christian Women's Fellowship.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Brian and Tammy Hilts of Salix; a
daughter and her husband, Ronda and Tony Rosenbaum of Sioux City; five
grandchildren, Corey, Danielle (fiancé Larry Schlines) and Brianna Hilts
and T. J. and Tyler Rosenbaum; a great granddaughter, Bella Hilts; a
sister, Ethel Phillips of Morehead City, NC, a sister-in-law, Betty Rich
of Holly Springs and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a
brother, Carol Clift and a brother-in-law, E. G. Phillips.
