Tribute & Message From The Family

Donna Jean Carmack Uptagrafft, 59, of Russellville, died suddenly and unexpectedly at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock on Thursday, October 27, 2011, of an acute illness. She was born on October 9, 1952, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Glenn and Billie Carmack.
Donna worked for Winrock International as a Sr. Program Officer. She developed and managed large international and domestic projects.
She was well loved and highly respected by everyone in her professional realm.
Donna was first and foremost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Donna gave her whole heart to her husband, children and grandchildren.
Donna and her husband, Fred, shared an unconditional love and closeness. Some of their favorite pastimes were travelling, auto racing, exploring the outdoors, kayaking, and discovering new adventures together. Donna and Fred were an exceptional couple and were married 42 years.
Donna loved her children, Michael and Daniel. She was an amazing role model to them. Donna had the patience of a Saint, the fortitude of a Princess Warrior and the heart of an Angel. Donna was proud of the fine and accomplished men her little boys grew up to be.
Donna was a devoted Grandmother, affectionately known as "Nonna" to Taylor, Blake, and Nathan. She loved playing, and spending quality time with them. Donna was actively involved in her grandchildren's lives including all of their sporting events. She was excited to watch Nathan and Blake play soccer and basketball, and got a kick out of taking Taylor to gymnastic practices and meets. Without Donna, Taylor would not be the accomplished gymnast her Nonna has helped her to become.
Donna loved and cared for her family, friends and others, more than she ever did for herself. She was truly a selfless person and an amazing, accomplished woman.
Simply said, Donna lived and loved life and everyone in it.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Uptagrafft; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Gina Uptagrafft of Carthage, Missouri, and Daniel and Alicia Uptagrafft of Little Rock; her parents, Glenn and Billie Carmack of Huntsville; a brother, Alan Duane Carmack of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Kaye Hill of Meridianville, Alabama, and Janice Nixon of Owens Crossroads, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Blake and Nathan Uptagrafft, all of Little Rock.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2011, at the Shinn Chapel, by Shinn Funeral Service. Burial will be private.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brent Thompson, Bryan Johnson, Greg Barborek, Blake Uptagrafft, Nathan Uptagrafft and Timothy Thatcher.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, from 6-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
