Tribute & Message From The Family

It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the untimely passing of our beloved patriarch Kenneth "Buzz" James McCard. He was taken from us unexpectedly early Monday morning, January 2, 2012, at age 75. Buzz was born in San Pedro, California November 16, 1936 to Milo and Viola McCard as the third of five children. Raised in San Pedro, he attended San Pedro High School and joined the Navy at age 17 so that he could marry the love of his life Velma; they were wed on September 4, 1954. After 4 years of service as a Navy electrician, Buzz joined the longshoreman's union in 1959. In 1980 he was promoted to boss and continued working the docks for 50 years before retiring in 2009. More importantly, his entire life revolved around his family. He enjoyed 57 years of marriage with Velma, raising their family in Lomita, California. There they were blessed with 6 children: Cindy MacGilvray and husband Mike, Gary McCard (deceased), Scott McCard, Karen Negrinelli and husband Curt, Cheryl Munoz and husband Dave, and Todd McCard. Buzz is survived by his wife and children along with his 20 grandchildren: Malissa Reynolds, Deanna McCard, Crystal McCard, Mike MacGilvray Jr., Scott McCard Jr., Tiffany Negrinelli, David Munoz Jr., Brett MacGilvray, Ashley Lopez, Kevin Negrinelli, Eric McCard, Vincent Munoz, Amber McCard, Courtney Munoz, Adam McCard, Gary McCard, Kenny McCard, Autumn McCard, Robert McCard, and Conner Negrinelli; as well as, 6 great grandchildren: Madison Reynolds, Taylor Munoz, Aden McCard, Ashlynn MacGilvray, Rylee Binkley, and Chris Lopez Jr. He also leaves behind his siblings; Dixie Jorgensen, Roberta Norman, Don McCard, James McCard (deceased), and 18 nieces/nephews. Buzz was so much to all of us, with his generosity and unending compassion. He touched many lives. He will forever be in our hearts and memories. There will be a visitation held at Green Hills Memorial Park Thursday, January 12 between 1pm-4pm. A rosary will be held at Saint Margaret Mary Church Thursday, January 12 at 7:30pm. The funeral mass will also be held at Saint Margaret Mary Church on Friday, January 13 at 1pm, followed by a procession to Green Hills Memorial Park for the burial. In place of flowers please send donations to Feed the Children (online at or mail to P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Ok 73101).

Dear Velma, Scott & family,

I do understand losing a loved one so great & I am so sorry for all that you guys are going through.

Buzz had such a large family. He worked hard yet he was still able to give so much attention to everyone of you. I don't know how he managed to find time to make each one of you feel so especially loved, but he did! He was awesome! He was everything a man ought to be in a loving family. He's my favorite by far & he will be missed.

May God bless you all with the love, strength & comfort needed @ this time.

Hugs & kisses av6mMQlways, Margo

Dear Velma and family, I am so very sorry for the loss of your soulmate, father, and grandfather! I will always remember those 4th of Julys' in Santa Barbara with you all. Buzz, Don, Curt, and Dave golfing while we talked by the pool. Don loved golfing with Buzz and going to Sambo's for breakfast. The best of times. I hope they are getting some hole in ones in the great golf course in heaven. Buzz was one of the best! His legacy will live on in your fine wonderful family. with much love & prayers! Joanne
