Jackie, I am saddened to hear of your loss. Mike and I were in quite a few classes together at SJC, and we loved debating politics. He was always so well versed on so many topics. He helped me understand more than I can remember. Puma love to you and the kids.

I still don't know what to say and probably can't say it as eloquently as others but I wanted to post something about my friend Mike. He was laid to rest today in the presence God and of his loving family and friends. Believe me when I say, one could feel the love and prayers offered from those far away. His death brings the realization to many of just how short and precious life is for all of us. I can remember meeting Mike in High School. One time he offered me a ride home (one of Many) and I was terrified all the way. We were jumping the curb and getting a bit too close to parked cars. But he got better, as we all did. And he was always ready and willing to help someone out, to be a friend and to share what he had. He always had a smile or a mischievous grin on his face too (he was always thinking and scheming about something). I had the privileged of knowing Mike in College and was proud to see he and Jackie get married and have two beautiful children. These past few days have been exhausting but we have been able to see and hear from so many who loved Mike. He touched so many lives. He touched mine and I am the better for it. I will miss you terribly my friend! I pray that the Lord will bring solace and peace to all who mourn your loss. Farewell Mike, may you rest in the peace of Christ Jesus!

I worked with Mike during his "asbestos" days. My pre-teen son and his friend were driving me nuts with their shenanigans. Mike let me bend his ear about it one day and I asked him what do you think of the situation? He calmly answered, "I think they're best friends." He had summed it up in a brief sentence and let me know that I was wasting my time trying to break them up. He was friendly and kind to every employee at the office. He was interested in our lives and let us share in his life and the family he was so proud of and loved so much. He will be truly missed. Gone way too soon.

Mike and I were good friends in law school. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Mike was always a fun, sociable guy with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed debating the issues of the day and held firm to his convictions. His friendship made our time in law school a much more enjoyable experience. My sincere condolences to Jackie, Ethan, Lauren, and the entire family. He will be missed dearly.

Dear Jackie -
We attended your wedding and I worked with Mike at Kurowski, Bailey & Shultz in Swansea, IL. I am sorry to hear of Mike's passing and will say a prayer for your peace and comfort in this difficult time. May God bless you and watch over you and the children.

I met Mike about six months after I started practicing law in 2004. He was with another defense firm and we became friends "on the circuit." I learned a lot from Mike while I practiced alongside him. We e-mailed back and forth a few times after he was no longer with Kurowski, and our kids went to the same preschool. I am shocked by the loss of this kind man, and I am so profoundly sorry for your loss, Jackie, Ethan and Lauren. Although I never met you, I feel as if I knew you, because Mike spoke so fondly of you all. My prayers will be with you during this difficult time. The world is better for having Mike in it, however brief it may have been.

When Mike would come to the house, my Dad loved to push his buttons. Often Mike would take the other side of the argument, just for the sake of debate. We shared many laughs, and many great times. God speed my friend.

Mike was one of nine grandkids on his mother's side of the family. Unfortunately, he had no control over the fact that he was the youngest of the nine grandkids. As I sit and think about what life will be like for his family now that he is gone, I can't help but laugh about how much Mike endured as the "baby" of the family. I am afraid he may have caught the blame for several things he wasn't involved in. Also, I would say he may have been "bullied" into sticking to the "truth" that we other cousins had vowed to tell. Although Mike will be missed by many, I do know that there must have been quite the crowd of loved one's to greet him as he arrived in heaven. I love you and will miss you Mike.

To the family of Michael Tackett, I am so stunned and so saddened to hear of the loss of Mike. I worked with Mike at Allstate Insurance Company. He had a great sense of humor and made the work day a bit brighter. I remember him always telling stories about Ethan. And I remember him calling to tell us about the birth of his daugter. He was a very proud father. Please know that thoughts and prayers are with your family at this very sad time.

Together we were Crusaders, Knights, and Pumas. How lucky I was to have him by my side, a perfect gentleman. Riding bikes and walking to school. Shoveling sidewalks on snow days to earn money for the latest Nintendo games. Home-run derby in the backyard. White knuckling it in the backseat of Mark's car on our rides home from high school. Bowling at Smitty's, a snipe hunting and Christmas tree high school court yard adventure. Drives to Rensselaer and back. I will never forget when I came over to study and Mike jokingly told Snooper, "Sick her." My first dog bite, something a true friendship survives. Mike was a blessing, one I will always treasure.
Cindy, Mike, and Mark, may you find comfort in the many memories of your beloved son and brother.
Love and prayers,

When I was 16, I moved to Ft Wayne and attended Bishop Luers High School, where I met my friend and confidante, Michael Wade Tackett. His parents, Darrell and Cindy, opened the doors to their home and welcomed us to hang out there. I don’t know if they realize how much that meant to us – it’s so important for a couple of teenage boys to have a place to discuss the trials and tribulations of adolescence – so thank you.
One night in particular, this was about twenty years ago, it snowed in Ft Wayne and Mike suggested that we take a walk in the snow and discuss the meaning of life. Mike tended to think a lot so we got along great. Well, I thought walking in the snow at night was about the best idea any one could have, so off we went, meandering around Waynedale. If I recall, our conversation covered our views on God and Women which were basically one and the same view – total and complete awe. But we mostly talked about our uncertain futures. What would the future hold? What were our hopes and dreams? Would we love and be loved? Mike veered from very practical ideas such as becoming an attorney to more radical dreams of being a famous actor. I really encouraged the actor idea because I myself thought being a famous novelist sounded about right. Well, we finally settled on the idea that we didn’t know what the future would be like – it was a great big mystery – and there was such a palpable thrill in accepting the unknown while the snowflakes fell all around us. We were so enraptured by that moment. We were in a transcendent state. It was a spiritual moment for a couple of 17 or 18 year old kids. As our walk came to an end, we decided that one day when we were old and gray we would co-author a book entitled “Walks on Snowy Evenings”.
