Condolence & Memory Journal

I worked many late nights at the Old Uncle Sam's nightclub on Alcoa Highway in Knoxville with Swag. Not only was he one of the best club spinners, he was an entertainer. He was the first guy I ever saw who had a live drummer on stage with him;....playing along with the music. I can still see his face light up....as it always did when we would see one another. I will miss him....

I really never met Michael but felt like he was a friend through his djing and all those years on "All mixed up." There will be a big hole in Columbus radio with Michaels passing. I think the best compliment would be that he made mine and lots of other folks feet move and that's a great thing. RIP Michael...

I, as well as many others, cannot find the proper words to express the feeling of loss. My heartfelt sympathy to everyone in Swaggs' family. I had the honor of working for, and then with, Mike. Starting at Cadillac Cafe' then to Headliners and Hot Peppers as well as countless weddings and mobile events. I will miss you my friend.

I had a pleasure of working with Mike from 1989 through 1991 at the infamous Cadillac cafe in Dublin Ohio. Great guy to work with. He taught me a lot about music and mixing. Its so sade to see him leave us so early. God less. Steve firouzian, Dublin Ohio

I'm out of words so I'll borrow a few...impact unmeasured...walk in peace. If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung, Would you hear my voice come thru the music, Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken, Perhaps they're better left unsung. I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air. Reach out your hand if your cup be empty, If your cup is full may it be again, Let it be known there is a fountain, That was not made by the hands of men. There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night, And if you go no one may follow, That path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone, If you should stand then whos to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home.

I met Michael back in the late 70's when he was spinning at Uncle Sams and I was working at WKGN. I showed him some things about radio and he showed me some things about mixing in a club. We had some good times together. He was one of the sweetest guys I've ever known. He had a wonderful soul. A joy to be around. Although I lost track over the years I did have an opportunity to reconnect with him through his "I knew the stip in the 70's" Facebook Site back in August. I know he enjoyed reconnecting with friends from the past through that site. I'm glad he did it. He will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I pray the Lord will give you peace during this saddest of all times. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Ps. 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Our Lord waits to welcome each of His children home.

R.I.P. to Michael Swaggerty He's one of the greatest people I've ever had the chance to meet and call a friend. Swaggs is an incredible influence on countless of djs, including myself & the dance music scene in Columbus & far beyond. He was always graciously willing to help anyone that asked, and I never heard him say a harsh word about anyone. He will truly be missed by so many people. If there's a dancefloor in Heaven, I'm sure he'll be on the wheels of steel creating a wonderful, soulful vibe. God bless you my friend.

For the first time in my life I can say that there is nothing left to say. We said it and expressed our love and friendship everyday. You have been a constant friend, companion and mentor to me for such a long time. It's going to be lonely for a bit but like I told you: I'll see you, in just a blink of an eye and until then, you will always be in my heart. Much love to your sweet family and many friends. We were so fortunate just to have you in our lives. You touched so many. That is the true measure of your spirit and a tribute to all of us for having this time with you on earth. Always in my heart, Sarah

Mike was one of those exceedingly rare people: a person who changed your life for the better with every encounter. From his love of music to his open-armed love of people, he made the world that much better everywhere he walked. Thanks, Mike; we'll miss you deeply.
