Tribute & Message From The Family

Leo Materi, 90, Linton, ND, died Monday, March 19, 2012 in the Strasburg Care Center, Linton, ND.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, ND.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Myers Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour before service time on Friday at the church.  Leo Materi was born October 22, 1921 on a farm in Emmons County, the son of Michael and Mary (Schwartzenberger) Materi.  He attended country school.  Leo married Melonia "Molly" Malsom on November 23, 1943 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton.  Following their marriage, they lived and farmed six miles west of Linton.  Leo retired in 2010 from farming and moved into Linton.  He also lived in Bismarck for a short period of time before entering the Strasburg Care Center.  Leo died March 19, 2012 in the Strasburg Care Center.  He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, attending auctions and restoring John Deere Combines.  Leo was a member of Catholic Order of Foresters and ND Farm Bureau.  He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law:  LeRoy and Karlene Materi, Linton, ND, three daughters and sons-in-law:  Marilyn and Ervin Schaaf of Elgin, ND, Kathy and Phil Miller of Huntsville, TX and Michaelette " Mickey" and Don Higgins of Black Hawk, SD, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, one brother, William Materi of Seattle, WA and three sisters:  Mary Martin of Linton, ND, Helen Bachelor of  Eugene, OR, and Mercedes Goetz of Linton and one brother-in-law: Frank Gabriel of Strasburg, ND.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2007, a sister, Barbara Gabriel and one brother in infancy.
