Condolence & Memory Journal

We are grateful for more than 20 years contact with Roy and his family. It makes our life rich and opened a door to an other country and the life of people how left Germany 150 years before. The highlight was my visit Roy in March 2009. A dream came tru. I visit my relative Roy. I know him since I was a girl of nine years by letters, photos an phone. It was only one day, but I have met him. This day I lill never forget. I hope the contact between our family and Your family will exist on. We will remember Roy and Betty in prayer. Please know that I am thinking and praying for all of you during this difficult time. I also grew up in the neighborhood and your Dad was a wonderful man. I remember the many times that he would fix a big dinner on Sunday, invite me to join your family, and then take us on a plane ride over the great Mississippi. Hold tight to all the wonderful memories as they will carry you through. Fondly, Debbie Gore Swedberg

roy was the greatest pilot ever and and convinced me that i could make a living doing it so he taught me how to stay alive when things got bad.. that made my 31 year career of flying very easy..

Didn't we have a great neighborhood to play, grow, thrive and learn, thanks to all of our parents. I remember sleeping in a camper in your backyard once, the 1st time I ever camped out. It was fun. May you find peace knowing that your parents are together once again. Take good care of one another. With sympathy, Jean Linquist Drulis

Dear Roy Tom, Bo, Mary, Tim, Angela, Martha, Mark, and Joe, It’s not possible for us to attend Roy’s funeral tomorrow, but I was very glad to be able to phone up on Sunday with Bo, Tim, and Joe from over here in Germany. I’ve often thought about the time I first ever set foot in a plane: it was Roy’s Piper Cub. He spontaneously took me and Bo along on a private flight of his to Chicago—it was in the fall of 1959—and not the last time that I experienced Roy at the controls in flight. You always felt safe with Roy, he was that type of pilot. There are too many childhood memories of growing up with all of you on Vogt street to relate here—but, then, I don’t have to, they’re your memories, too. Our heartfelt condolences. Tomorrow we’ll be thinking of all of you—and of Roy and Betty. Always, Paul and Gabriele

To all the kids that I grew up with: I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. A heck of a lot of memories! I wish that I could be there for the funeral just to see and talk with you. I doubt if I have space here to tell you about a "very small world" experience about your Dad that I had with someone in Vancouver, BC. I would have enjoyed sharing that with you. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers...He will hold you and He will heal you and He will give you peace. Genie Gore

I am so sorry for the loss of your father. These last fews years have been special and I will miss taking Dad to see and visit with him. It is never easy losing someone we love, I know he is with all those he loved that went before him. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
