Retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel, Edmund H. Coulter, husband of Louise M. Coulter, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2005.

Colonel Coulter was a veteran of 30 years of service and three wars.

He was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, to the late Howard and Lucy (Cartwright) Coulter. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 and upon completion of flight training was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He saw action in the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific during World War II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medals. For his actions in Korea, he was awarded the Silver Star Medal. In Vietnam, he served as both a Squadron Commanding Officer and as a Marine Aircraft Group Commanding Officer. He received two Legion of Merits and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

Colonel Coulter was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Boston, MA. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and the Master of Arts degrees from the College of the Holy Cross. He also completed the Advanced Management Program of the Graduate School of Business Administration at Tufts University.

After retiring, he joined the staff of the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He also served as Co-chair of the Retired Officers Association, and Treasurer of the Weston Seniors Golf Association, and was a member of numerous other professional and service organizations.

Edmund was a family man and cherished his children and grandchildren. He was a doting father, loving husband and caring friend. His love of country and dedication to service followed him throughout his full life. He will be sorely missed.

Surviving Colonel Coulter is his sister, Carmen Briggs of Saugus, MA; son, James F. Coulter of Sacramento, CA; daughter, Lorraine McGuinty and son-in-law, John McGuinty of Brattleboro, VT; grandsons, Peter and Brett McGuinty of Brattleboro, VT, Vincent Cordelay of Houston, TX.

Funeral Mass with full Military Honors will take place on August 17 at 11am at the Tributes Funeral Home, Boston, MA. Visitation one hour prior to service. Burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
