ROME (AP) — Annarita Sidoti, a former world and European race walking champion form Italy, died Thursday. She was 44.

The Italian Olympic Committee said Sidoti died at her home in the Sicilian town of Gioiosa Marea following a long illness.

Sidoti won the 10-kilometer race at the 1997 world championships and the 1990 and 1998 European Championships. She competed in three Olympics, finishing seventh in the 10K in 1992.
