Greensboro, NC: Adelaiede Hurst Brinkley, 89, died Sunday at Well Spring. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she was an active member, serving as an adjunct chaplain and Alter Guild member for many years. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service in the Haywood Duke Room at the Church.

A native of Lookout Mountain, TN, Adelaiede graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. After raising 3 children she went back to school and received her master's degree in education from UNC-G.

Because her husband Ed had to travel in his work so much, Adelaiede was the "rock" and stabilizing factor in the children's life. She had an amazing way of letting the 3 children work through their individualism without finding fault (the essence of unconditional love).

Adelaiede was an active member in the community. She served with the American Red Cross, Greensboro Junior League as a sustaining member, administered communion to church members at Cone and Wesley-Long Hospitals, was a counselor at the Guilford County Mental Health Center and at Cone Cardiac Rehab.

She is survived by her, daughters, Mrs. Wendy B. Dickerson and her husband Richard of Greensboro; Susan Brinkley and her partner Lisa Burns of Rodeo, CA; and son Edgar (Trey) Louis Brinkley, III and his wife Evelyne of Los Angeles, CA. Surviving also are her sister-in-law Norinne H Hurst, brother -in-law John A. Brinkley and sister-in-law Marjory Poston.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, Eighth Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001; Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 609 N. Greene St., Greensboro, NC 27401; or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2600 Summit Ave., Greensboro, BC 27405 or to a charity of one's choosing.
