Lt. Col. Alan Winfield Keenen (USAF, ret.) 91, of Palm Harbor, peacefully passed on July 26, 2017. Alan was born in Kennett Square, PA. He was a decorated B-24 tail-gunner on the “Bangin’ Lulu” and POW survivor during WWII earning a Purple Heart and 3 Air Medals. He went on to become a decorated USAF bomber command pilot. After a distinguished 20 year career, he retired in 1967.



Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Almaretta M. Keenen; five children, Betsy Keenen Walker (David), Janis Keenen Dietrich, Michael W. Keenen (Robin), Carol Keenen Chamberlain (Glenn) and Cathy Keenen Fuller (Bob). He also will be missed by his three step-children, Cindy Gross Gomez (Enrique), Mark W. Gross (Andrea) and David A. Gross (Nancy); along with his eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.



Alan was predeceased by his first wife of 49 years, Dawn R. Keenen and his parents.



Alan dearly loved his family, his country, flying and a good game of golf. “To fly west, my friend, is the final flight was all must take… It’s time for you to rest.”



A graveside service will military honors will take place on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater.
