Alane Watkins Fritz, 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Orlando, Florida. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert J. Fritz, Sr., her parents, Maude and Thomas J. Watkins, Sr., her sister, Judy Watkins, and her brother, Thomas J. Watkins, Jr.

Her children were her greatest joy. She is survived by her daughter, Susan F. Hatcher (Skip), St. Augustine, Florida, sons, Dr. Robert J. Fritz, Jr., Apopka and James T. Fritz (Donna), Orlando, Florida, four grandchildren, Eric (Debbie) Canoura, Jacksonville, Florida, Lauren Canoura, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Zachary Fritz and Nicole Fritz, Orlando, Florida and two great-grandchildren, Eric Canoura and Liam Canoura, Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by sisters, Maryann (Ed) Holmes, Katty (Don) McManus, Susan Massey and brother, Hugh Watkins, all of Sebastian, Florida. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she also dearly loved.

She was born on August 10, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the second of seven children. She moved to Miami, Florida, where she met and married Bob. They moved to Orlando in 1962 where she was a homemaker until she began attending college at age 41, ultimately obtaining a Master’s of Arts Degree in Education and Human Development from Rollins College in 1988. She worked as a licensed mental health counselor in private practice and at Orlando Regional Health until her retirement in 1998. She loved to listen to the stories of others’ lives and offer her wisdom and loving advice. She was a life-long Democrat, whose only regret is that she did not see a woman elected as President of the United States. She enjoyed following national politics. Alane loved her cats, Big Foot (RIP) and Tippy.

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Carmen and her nurse, Jackie plus numerous other health care professionals from Florida Hospital and Cornerstone Hospice for the loving care and attention provided to her. She also was blessed to have support and friendship from the staff at her residence, The Wellesley, in College Park, which allowed her to live independently.
