Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Mr. Alfonsa Eugene “Bunny” Tindal was born on October 8, 1946 in Florence, South Carolina to Woodrow Bee and Hattie Bell Tindal Thomas. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at his residence after an illness. Alfonsa attended the public schools of Florence County, where he was a member of the baseball and football teams. He was formerly employed in the Framing and Finishing Department of Lay-Z Boy East in Florence, South Carolina for over 33 years until his retirement. “Bunny” was a member of Majority Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of Mt. Pisgah Masonic Lodge #437. Alfonsa will most be remembered for his love of giving nicknames to others. He had a name for everyone that he had the pleasure of coming in contact with. He also enjoyed grilling, and was known as the “Grill Master”. He will be sorely missed. In addition to his parents, “Bunny” was preceded in death by one son, Michael Brown; one granddaughter, LaKeydra Williamson; and one brother, Dennis Thomas. Those left to cherish precious memories include: his devoted companion for over 50 years, Ola Mae Vernell Backus; his children: David (Cynthia) Mouzon, Azalee Jones, Joyce (Alex) Williamson, and James (Bridgette) Baccus, all of Florence, SC; Mark (Latricia) Backus of New Britain, CT; Allison (Akim) Yessofou of Charlotte, NC; and Stephanie (Dondre’) James of Effingham, SC; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brown of Florence, SC; siblings: Dorothy Graham, Willie (Thomasina) Thomas, Cynthia (Eli) Davis, Donna (James)Washington, Melvin (Jorena) Thomas and Berda Dean (Dexter) Caldwell, all of Florence, SC; sisters-in-law: Reverend Christine Harrison, Earnestine Rogers and Hattie Thomas, all of Florence, SC; brother-in-law, Robert Brown of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
