Alice Margaret Walling Mewes, 93, of Altamonte Springs, FL went to be with her Lord on February 18, 2017. She was born to the late Henry D. and Alice L. (Sperling) Walling in Long Branch, NJ on April 20, 1923. Alice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She graduated from Long Branch High School, class of 1941. Alice pursued a career in teaching and graduated from Newark State Teacher’s College (now Kean Univ.). She taught in the Long Branch school district for 25 years and an additional 10 years in Orange County, FL. Alice was passionate about teaching at the elementary level and enjoyed being a reading specialist. She was married to her late husband, Warren L. Mewes Sr., for 42 years prior to his passing. Together, Alice and Warren loved to dance, bowl, golf, and spend time with family. Warren referred to Alice as “Madam Lasagna,” as she had a take charge attitude. Alice was compassionate and had a rich, nurturing spirit that she passed along to her children, Warren Jr., Keith, and Pamela. Alice and her family moved to Florida in 1969. They were charter members of Sanlando United Methodist Church in Longwood, FL, where Alice served on many committees and sang in the choir for 44 years. Alice had a special passion for jail ministry. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She also had a deep love for American history and enjoyed traveling to historic places. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as the Scottish-American Society (Orlando Chapter, Clan Grant). Alice played a large role in helping to bring the Scottish Games to Orlando. Alice was an avid reader, especially later in life. She also loved the beach, summer vacations, the theatre, genealogy, and above all, her family. Alice deeply loved her grandchildren, who in turn adored her. Among her many accomplishments in life, Alice was the proud to have made the “7-10” split in bowling. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten by all those who knew and loved her.

Alice was preceded in passing by her husband, Warren L. Mewes Sr. and her son, Warren Jr.

She is survived by her children Keith Henry Mewes (Diane) and Pamela Alice Guerrera; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; other relatives in New Jersey and Florida; and many friends.
