Alice Sue Lahr Carson, 79, of Newport, NC, died Friday, December 8, 2017 in the home of her daughter.
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Green Hill Cemetery 901 Wharton Street, Greensboro, NC with Dr. John Langham officiating. The family will host a Celebration of Life in Sue's memory at 2:30 p.m. at the O'Henry Hotel, 624 Green Valley Road, Greensboro, NC.
Daughter of late Walter P. And Helen R. Lahr, Sue was born in Tahlequah, OK in 1938. Sue earned an undergraduate degree from Flora Mcdonald College and a Masters in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill.
Sue was many things in her 79 years; daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, caretaker, shell collector, school teacher, tutor, antique dealer, store owner, gardener, bird lover. the list goes on. Her greatest legacy may be that of memory-maker. For each person that she has touched, there is that one memory we have of her that brings a smile to our eyes. A recipe shared, a tradition begun, a sage bit of advice, a shoulder when most needed, a glass of wine when a shoulder just wasn't enough, a willingness to set aside her own fears to share something wonderful, an open door and an endless supply of patience.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carson was preceded in death by husband, John W. Carson, Jr. and her sister, Dot Taylor. She is survived by her son, John W. Carson, III and wife, Kathrine Strand Carson of Chesapeake, Va., their children, Miranda Alexis Carson (Ryan O'Leary, fianc) and Chase Armstrong Carson; daughter, Mary Lahr Carson Cain and husband, Daniel Gerald Cain of Willow Spring, NC, and their children, Emma Worth Cain and Carson Gerald Cain and sister, Coletta Roach and husband, Roy.
Sue loved flowers so please purchase one for your home or yard to be enjoyed for years to come. If you are not a flower person but would like to remember her in a lasting way, please make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice.
