Turner, Allen B, 87 died July 18, 2017. Born Sept. 13th,1929 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He was the son of Stephen and Myfanwy Turner. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife Doris Turner of Clearwater, Son Allen (MIchele) Turner II of Benton, PA, daughter Deborah Turner of Orlando. Grandsons Allen Turner III and his wife Lindsay and Aaron Turner of PA.





Mr.Turner graduated from Kingston High School in 1947 and immediately following graduation he served his country in the US Army, 1st Cav. Division while stationed in Japan. He was discharged in 1948 and attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College until 1951.





He began his education career at Berwick High School and taught Biology and Advanced Biology. While at Berwick he attended Bucknell University and received his Masters in Secondary Education. In 1960 he became Berwick's Vice Principal and Athletic Director. He started and coached the first Berwick wrestling team and led them to the league championship in 1961. He also started the first Key Club in Pennsylvania. Later on in his life he would be inducted into Berwick's Athletic Hall of Fame.





He left Berwick in 1965 to become the principal at Northwest High School and would serve as District 4 Chairman for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association during his last 7 years at Northwest. Mr. Turner retired to Clearwater in 1982. He began a second career at UPARC in Clearwater serving aging adults with developmental disabilities for 13 years and retiring, again, in 1996. While at UPARC he was awarded the Marion P Smith award given by the Kiwanis for providing exceptional service while working with persons with developmental disabilities.





Allen and his wife Doris, spent many years enjoying golf, exercise, traveling, family and friends They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this coming December.





Celebration of life service will be 11 am Tues. July 25 at Sylvan Abbey United Methodist Church, Clearwater.
