Life Story No words of sympathy can ease the hurt that is ours, but thoughts and memories last as long as time endures; so as our treasured memories grow more with each tomorrow, may they become a source of peace and comfort in our sorrow. ALMA R. ROBINSON began her journey in Newberry, South Carolina on July 8, 1938 and completed her journey in the early morning of March 11, 2015. She was the first child born to the late James M. Robertson, Sr. and Thelma W. Robertson. Alma was educated in the public schools in Newberry, South Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina and a Master's Degree in Education from Antioch University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Alma was a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc., Zeta Chapter. Alma met and married the late Dr. James R. Robinson and from this union one child was born, Michael K. Robinson. Alma followed in the footsteps of many family members who were educators. She was a dedicated Special Education teacher in the Oxford and Colonial School Systems. Alma would spend countless hours preparing lesson plans/IEP plans while family members were engaged in other activities. Alma loved teaching and retired from this profession in 1993. Alma was an active and committed member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church. She held several positions, which included serving on the Board of Stewards as the Coordinator of the Seasoned Saints Ministry, a ministry serving seniors and retirees. Every Sunday morning, Alma could be heard reading the weekly announcements. In addition, she served as the Financial Secretary for the Florida Grant Women's Missionary Society, and the Founder/Director of the GED Program. Previously, Alma was a member of the Chancel Choir and President of the Gaskins Hopkins Pride Scholarship Committee. Alma had many hobbies, which included traveling, reading, completing crossword puzzles, attending plays and movies, and her favorite passion was shopping. Alma loved to SHOP. Alma was a people person. She loved talking to anyone about anything. She was also a good listener. Many remember her favorite expression, "Oh My!" She used it so often it became her signature vanity tag. Remembering her in love and cherishing her memories are: her devoted son, Michael (Antoinette); one grandson, Mark Reynolds; one granddaughter, Malika Reynolds; one great-granddaughter, Effie Marion; one brother, James M. Robertson, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Mozzel Robinson of Richburg, SC and Laverne Robertson of Atlanta, GA; one uncle, Robert Robertson; one aunt, Geneva Watson of Aiken, SC; nephews, Dr. Eddie Robinson (Cynthia), Edward Spears (Crystal), and Roger Joyner; nieces, Carla Robinson, Tanya Robertson, Marcella Robertson, and Lawryn Henderson; grandnephews, Randall Robinson, Roger Joyner II, Roderick Joyner and Randall Joyner; grandniece, Jordan Robertson; great-grandniece, Adyn Huffman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
