Almery Richard Hamblen, Sr., 101, Merritt Island, died on August 29, 2017. Almery was born in Gorham, Maine to Joseph and Nellie (Elkins) Hamblen . He was survived by his dear sister Ida. Hamblen Dolan, and predeceased by his siblings, Lillian H. Grant, Charles Hamblen, Calvin H. Hamblen, Joseph A. Hamblen and Henry W. Hamblen, Sr. Almery was blessed with two marriages. Widowed twice, he was predeceased by Beatrice and Kay. Almery was survived by his son, Almery Richard Hamblen and daughter in law, Carolyn; stepson Gary Morgan and his wife Rosie; and grandsons, Scott, Steve, and Dean. Almery was loved by many extended family and friends, including his devoted friend, Carl Hall.

In almost 102 years of life, Almery touched the lives of many as a devoted family man, teacher, boater and veteran. Almery's life was dedicated to education. He taught school in Maine and Florida. Almery's legacy and love of education continues in an endowment for future education scholars at the University of Southern Maine in honor of his family. Almery was an avid historian and he chronicled the genealogy and centuries of diaries of the Hamblen family. In Florida, Almery was a member of the Banana River Sail & Power Squadron where he shared his love of boating and fishing. Almery was an aviator in the United States Air Force and he served his country in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Almery retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

At 101 years of age, Almery still enjoyed the companionship and monthly lunch with the local Space Coast veterans. In 2015, Almery celebrated his 100th birthday with the prestigious Honor Flight trip to Washington, D. C.
