Alvin Allen O'Neal, 74, of Houston, TX passed away Sunday February 19, 2017. Alvin was born on September 22, 1942 in Freeport, TX to Adolph and Laura May O'Neal. Alvin married Janice Marie Offenbacker in Temple Baptist Church, in Clute, TX on August 17, 1961.
Alvin wanted to serve people in his community and sought an education and career to help him do that. He earned his Masters degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX and used that in his career as a Minister for over 30 years. Alvin was an avid reader, and he loved to write - even working on a novel. He was a craftsman and wood worker, he loved to work with his hands - he loved to work in his flower garden, especially proud of his day lilies. He was an entrepreneur and thoughtful businessman. He loved his family dearly, his children and grandchildren gave him great pride and joy in his life. He was the guy who never met a stranger, and everyone who knew him - loved him.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents; father Adolph Allen O'Neal, mother Laura May Burnett and stepfather George Burnett; a grandson Kelly Allen O'Neal II, and a foster grandson William Von Kamp.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 56 years Janice O'Neal; his sons Michael Ray (Tressa) O'Neal and Kelly Allen (Georgia) O'Neal; foster son John Anthony Von Kamp; grandchildren Brandi O'Neal, Kyle (Meredith) O'Neal, Cameron O'Neal, Heather O'Neal (Bobby), Alexis Gray, and Kelsi O'Neal; his foster grandchildren Michael Von Kamp and Brittney Von Kamp; and great grandchildren, Bonnie, Margaret, Jack, and Scarlett.
He is further survived by his sisters Yvonne (Bobby) Kindle and Georgie May Kessner; as well as numerous other family, friends, and loved ones.
A visitation of family and friends will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Wednesday February 22nd 2017 from 6pm to 8pm.
Funeral Services will begin at 11am at Temple Baptist Church of Clute on Thursday February 23rd 2017. Interment will follow immediately after in Restwood Memorial Park.
