Amy Fox-Karabel Obituary

Amy Fox-Karabel passed away peacefully at the age of 82. She was surrounded by her family and lots of love. Amy was a beloved mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children; daughter Marcy and son-in-law Tom, sons Mike and Jay, and three grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, and Eliannah.

Amy grew up in New York. She pursued a major in journalism while in college. After she graduated from college, she got married and moved to Santa Monica, California with her husband Bill to raise a family. After Amy and Bill’s divorce, Amy raised her three children by herself in Culver City while she worked as a teacher for the Los Angeles School District. Amy spent many weekends attending her three children’s swim meets and other activities. Amy taught second grade in the inner city knowing that she was making a difference and changing lives for 30 years. After she retired from teaching, she did a lot of volunteer work. Amy volunteered as a Chaplain’s Assistant at the Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and was very involved with delivering Meals on Wheels to senior citizens.

Amy got remarried to Julius in 1982, and enjoyed a happy life with Julius in Mission Viejo until he passed away 8 years ago. Amy and Julius loved to dance, listen to jazz, and enjoyed attending many plays and musicals with a large group of friends. They traveled a lot through the United States and visited many Elder hostels. Amy loved to play bridge, mah jongg, and read books. For many years, Amy enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren’s sporting events, school activities, and other fun events.

Amy will be laid to rest on Friday, December 29, 2017 at El Camino Memorial Park in a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels of Orange County or San Diego in her name.
