Anita Rose Schakat Sweazy

Anita Rose Schakat, daughter of Karl and Anna Palke Schakat, was born on their farm April 23rd, 1929 near Elk City, Nebraska. She has one brother, Arthur (Art), who lives in Hastings, Nebraska. Anita graduated from Bennington High School in 1946. She and her family attended Benson Baptist Church during her growing up years. At a young age her Dad bought a farm at 148th and Old Military Road near Bennington, where she lived until she got married in 1950.

She was married to Donald Leon Sweazy on February 25, 1950. They were blessed with 5 children (and spouses which she considered children): Ben (and Daria), Sue (and Joel), Donna (deceased), John (and Debbie), and Don (and Donella), 11 grandchildren (Denver, Dallas, Austin, Campbell, Andrew, Michael, Jack, Joy, Jason, Jessica, and Samuel) and 10 great-grandchildren.

In 1972, Don and Anita built a house on the Schakat farm on Old Military Road and moved there with their family where they continued to live out their years.

Don and Anita attended Temple Baptist Church together for 61 years, then she continued to attend there for 7 more years after Don's death in 2010. Anita had been active in the church until recent years, serving the Lord teaching Sunday School and serving on the Ladies' Ministry Committee.

Anita loved Jesus as her Savior and His presence in her life was evident as she ministered to others with a heart for giving and serving. She went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 21st, 2017.
