Ann Howard, age 87, of Merritt Island, FL passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2017. An army brat born at Fort Sam Houston, TX she was the daughter of General Edward H. Lastayo and Virginia Lastayo. She is survived by her loving husband, Col. Ret. John Darby Howard, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. The years were marked by the traditional army life of many moves and separations during wartime. As an army wife she handled her job with grace, holding down the fort and watching after the children. She is also survived by her 4 loving children - Judy, Darby, Ginger, and Lynda Gail - 9 grandkids, and 15 great-grandkids.

Ann was an artist and attended Fine Art School in New York City after high school. She loved oils and watercolors, but in her later years took up china painting with a group of women here in Merritt Island which gave her great joy. Her appreciation of birds, flowers and the beauty of the natural world showed in every picture she painted.

Always a very present person and a great sounding board for most any topic, her sprightly spirit and love of life will be dearly missed. Her life will be celebrated in the presence of family and friends. Please contact the family for memorial information. Arrangements under the direction of Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, Merritt Island, FL.
