Ann Lee Shoemaker Layton passed away suddenly on January 23, 2017, in Palmdale, California. Ann was born September 9, 1935, in Newfane, New York, the daughter of Jennie Edna Beers Shoemaker and Edwin Allan Shoemaker, M.D. She graduated from LaSalle High School and attended the University of Buffalo, where she played on the volleyball team and studied physical therapy, graduating with one of the earliest classes of physical therapists in the country. She was a pioneer in that field at Antelope Valley Hospital.

She married Garrison Paul Layton in 1960 (later divorced), and they moved to Lancaster, California. For fifty-five years, she sang barbershop harmony as a bass with the Antelope Valley Showcase Chorus of Sweet Adelines. She also worked for 25 years in the optometry office of Gary Williams, D.O. Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and pets.

Ann is survived by her twin brother Mike Shoemaker; two daughters, Lee Ann Setzer (Steve) and Nikki Lynn Johnston. She was preceded in death by her mother.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at Joshua Mortuary, 3150 East Palmdale Blvd., in Palmdale, California. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to donate to the animal rescue organization of their choice.
