Ann Louise Shelton Berrio, a Houston resident for 49 years, passed away at the age of 75, on Thursday, November 3, 2016, with both of her children by her side, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born January 23, 1941, the only child of Elizabeth and James Shelton.

Ann graduated in 1958 from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX. She received her Bachelor's in Education from Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in San Marcos, TX and later received her Master's in Education from Texas A&I in Kingsville, TX. Ann taught junior high Language Arts at Spring Oaks Middle School for more than 40 years and continued to substitute years after she retired. She had a lifetime passion for education and the lessons she taught reached out further than the classroom. She was known for her bold, lovable personality, her compassion, and her dedication. She enjoyed a lifetime of traveling the world with her family and friends, and was especially fond of cruising.

Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 ½ years, Clarence Edward "Ed" Berrio, whom she met in Corpus Christi, TX and married in 1963. Their marriage was blessed with two children who survive her, son, Jason Edward Berrio and wife, Cindy of Lake Jackson, TX; daughter, Phyllis Berrio Sliva and husband Jeff of Wharton, TX and her much loved grandchildren, Austin Berrio and 6 year old twins, Zoe and Zachary Sliva.

A celebration of Ann's life was held in the sanctuary of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay in Houston, at 10:30am Saturday, November 12, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations in support of ovarian cancer research under the direction of Dr. Daniel Lehane for the Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 4384, Houston, TX 77210-4384.
