Ann Langer was born to U.V. and Vertie Wills on Sept. 26, 1920 on a farm 8 miles east of Pomeroy, WA. She grew up on the farm with her five siblings, until she left in 1939 to do her undergraduate work at Washington State University and University of Puget Sound.
After graduating, she trained to become an RN at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, completing her MSN in 1942.She worked in pediatrics, taught nursing, and served as a clinical supervisor and as a surgical nurse.
In Chicago, she met and married her husband Gerhard (Gary) Langer in 1951. Their children, Steven, Linda and Richard were all born in Chicago. With the arrival of her children, she devoted herself to raising her growing family. The family moved to Boulder, CO in the summer of 1963, where Ann volunteered at schools, and at Mountain View Methodist Church.
In 1980, after their youngest son completed college, Ann and Gary took a mission trip to Haiti. This memorable excursion began a new chapter of her life. For the next 12 years Ann gave leadership to mission teams, organizing and coordinating efforts of several Methodist churches in Boulder. The legacy of these efforts is the Boulder United Methodist Mission Partners (BUMMP) which continue to this day.
In 1985, she served as the first coordinator of Volunteers in Mission for the Rocky Mountain Conference, and later the entire Western Jurisdiction-serving a territory that stretched from eastern Colorado to Hawaii and all the way north to Alaska. She also served on the Board of Trustees and led a team that did a major remodeling project at Mountain View Methodist Church. Ann and Gary moved to Fraser Meadows Retirement Community in 1996, where they enjoyed a very rich community life in their final years.
Ann passed away on Monday, February 20th at Fraser Meadows. She is survived by her children Steven, Linda and Richard, as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, March 3rd at 1pm at Mountain View Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place in Boulder. Visit to share memories and condolences.
