Carol Fraering Taylor passed into eternal rest on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 10:24pm at East Jefferson Hospital. Carol, 91, joins her late husband, the Honorable Howard Joseph Taylor, and parents, Joseph S. Fraering and Sydney Bagnetto Fraering, in their heavenly home.

Born in New Orleans on January 24, 1926, Mrs. Taylor, graduated from Henry Allen Elementary School, Eleanor McMain Secondary School, and St. Mary’s Dominican College for women.

Carol, known affectionately as “Mere” in the family, was a model caregiver who devoted her life to raising her five children, thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. As tough as she was beautiful, she was determined to see her Howard, a WWII veteran, before his next tour of duty in Korea, and drove her 1950 Chevrolet without air-conditioning to San Diego with their firstborn infant to meet him.

The Taylor family carries on her blessings of love and resilience. A dedicated parishioner of St. Francis of Xavier, Mere never missed the chance to give thanks to the Lord.

She is survived by all her children: Howard, Jr. (JoAnn) of Houston; Robert Fraering (Beth) of Lafayette; and David Patrick (the late DeLane), Elizabeth Taylor Harbison (Mark), and Kenneth James Taylor (Sheryl) of New Orleans.

Her grandchildren grew up at Mere’s home on Fairway Drive eating ice cream, playing in her garden and climbing trees: Robert Michael (Kristi), Leigh Taylor McMillan (Frank), Mary Katherine Taylor Kaufman (Mark), Phillip Taylor Gray, Elliott Kirkland (Monica), David Patrick, Jr. (Naomi), Caroline Gray Johnson (Alex), Harrison Howard, Kenneth, Jr., John Christian, Matthew, John Fraering, and Sadie Taylor. She called her great-grandchildren sugar and sweetness in exchange for their kisses: Laney and Eliza McMillan, Murphy and Marley Taylor, and Louise Elizabeth Kaufman.

Mrs. Taylor is also survived by her sister, Betty Fraering Froeba of New Orleans, with whom she spoke every morning and occasionally shared an Old Fashioned; and a close cousin, Marie Louise Schramel, and sister-in-law, Mary Ryan Taylor as well as many loving cousins. She is also preceded in death by her late brother Palmer Fraering (Jacquelyn), father and mother-in-law Robert Wesley Taylor, Sr. and Esther Mary McGinn, brothers-in-law Robert Wesley Taylor, Jr. (Violet Ryan), Thomas James Taylor, sisters-in-law Patricia Taylor, Mary Esther Taylor LeBlanc (Joseph). Survived by Harry Graham.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:30am. Interment will follow the Mass in Greenwood Cemetery.
