Heart Emblem

Annette Newman Kramer, of Hicksville, NY, died peacefully on June 11, 2017 at the remarkable age of 95.

Annette was born in Newark, NJ, where she grew up with her brother, Bill, and her parents Sadie and Maurice Newman. She and her husband, Sigmund Kramer, met at a dance when they were teenagers, and they married when Annette was 18. They were among the early homesteaders in Hicksville, purchasing their home there in 1951. Annette was a lifelong homemaker and devoted mother to their three sons, Thomas, Edward, and Richard.

Annette loved music, frequently singing snippets of various big band tunes. She also truly loved the ocean, whether going for a drive out to the east end or visiting Jones Beach. Annette had a keen color sense and could tell you the exact shade of any hue. She was proud of walking everywhere for most of her life, never wanting to learn to drive. Indeed, Annette steadfastly maintained that she walked at least "a million miles" in her lifetime, and it's possible that she was right. But Annette was happiest when she was with her family. She loved nothing better than having them gather at her home, talking to them, being affectionately teased by them, and plying them with treats. Annette was one-of-a-kind, and she made a special and lasting impression on everyone she met.

Annette was predeceased by her husband Sigmund, sons Edward ("Woody") and Rick ("Ricky"), daughter-in-law Diane, and her brother and parents. She is survived by her oldest son, Tom, as well as by Tom's wife, Meredith; Edward's wife, Peg; grandchildren Kristopher, Tammany, Evrett, Joshua, Matthew, Zachary, Emily, and Logan; and eight great-grandchildren.

A service will be held on Thursday at Shalom Memorial Chapels, 760 Smithtown Bypass, Smithtown, NY at 12:00. Interment will be at New Montefiore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Annette's memory to the American Cancer Society.
