Anthony LaGuardia, "Tony", was born in Denver Colorado and raised on the family farm just outside of Denver Colorado. He was the youngest of 7 children born to European- Italian parents, Antonette and Joseph LaGuardia. As a teenager he worked as a nurseryman and flower grower on a neighboring farm where he me Betty Blehm, his future wife-to-be.
In 1950 he enlisted as a seaman in the U.S. Navy, serving his tour of duty on the USS Prairie in Japan and Hawaii during the Korean War. He was classified as a mechanical engineer and pipe fitter, repairing Naval ships during ports of call. On October 6, 1951, he married Betty while stationed in San Diego, CA. In 1954, he was discharged honorably having received the National Defense Service Ribbon, the United Nations Service Ribbon and the Korean Service Ribbon.
After his military service, he set his sights on finding steady work and starting a new family. In 1957 he and Betty moved to Phoenix, AZ where he started work as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. They adopted a daughter, Mary, on October 20, 1961 and their second daughter, Donna, was born on January 1, 1964. He continued work as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1988. He and Betty remained married until her passing in 2003.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather with a kind, generous and lovable personality. He is survived by his daughters, Mary and Donna; son-in-law, Todd and grandson, Robert. He is predeceased by his siblings, wife Betty and partner, Leola.
He is one in a million and will be dearly missed!
