Arlene Thigpen Cox, 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center on Friday, April 28,2017.

Arlene was born October 20,1930 in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Kirby Alton Thigpen and Alice Hill Thigpen of Pink Hill, NC. She graduated from Beulaville High School where she was an outstanding basketball star. She worked at Carolina T&T, as a receptionist at Craven County Hospital, and as a sales associate at Anne Marie. She was a member and deacon of Broad Street Christian Church. She also was affiliated with New Bern Women's Club for over fifty years and the Golden Age Club. Arlene loved many things in life, but her devotion was to her family, friends and church.

She is survived by her daughter Vicki Ferrell (Rick) of Wilmington, NC and her son James Harrell (Joanna) of Orlando, FL. Three grandchildren Allison Parker (Jim), Chad Ferrell and Jeffrey Ferrell of Wilmington, NC. Two step grandchildren, George Lorenzo of Orlando, FL and Jordana Lorenzo of Mamaroneck, NY. Two great grandchildren, Landon and Haylee Parker of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are her siblings, Mervin Thigpen (LouAnn) of Pink Hill, NC and Betty Futrell (Elwood) of Jacksonville, NC and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Alton Thigpen of Kannapolis, NC.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at Cotten Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. A service to honor and remember her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 3 at Cotten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
