Mr. Arvin Clarence Childers, 77, of Valdese passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at his residence, following a period of declining health.
Arvin was born on December 9, 1941 in Burke County to the late Clarence Childers and Fay Lail Childers. He was a member of Bollinger's Chapel United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and worked as the meat cutter for Childers Market for over 50 years as well. Arvin was a Godly man and an avid gardener, who was always willing to help his neighbors and friends in any way that he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryder Childers.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Jean Watson Childers of the home; four children, Mitzi Yount of Valdese, Chris Childers and wife Glenda of Lawndale, Melissa Clark of Valdese, and Ryan Childers and wife Melissa of Valdese; two brothers, Bill Childers and wife Ellen, Berl Childers and wife Pat; two sisters, Linda Huffman, and Martha Hildebran and husband Larry. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Linsi Franklin, Michelle McAfee, Christopher Childers, Christa Childers, Jonathan Blankenship, Sarah Blankenship, Joey Newhart, Alex Childers, and Samuel Childers; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Franklin and Adaline Franklin; and honorary grandchildren, Jack, Amber, Georgia, Gerri, Rebekah, Kaylynn, Patrick, Chloe and April.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Bollinger's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. David J. Duncan, Rev. George Williams, and Devin Hildebran officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
