Mr. Aubrey Eugene Smith, Jr., age 88, of Locust Grove, GA passed away January 3, 2018. Mr. Smith was born in Gilbert, LA the son of the late Birdie Rushing Smith and Aubrey Eugene Smith, Sr. He was also preceded in death by brothers, J. W., Delton (Blackie) and Billy Smith; sisters, Margaret Kyle, Audrey Varner, and Odean Desidere; son, Tom Smith; stepson, Kenneth Minko; daughter-in-law, Kerry Smith and son-in-law, Ronald Lee.





Survivors are his wife of 30 years, Rose N. Smith of Locust Grove; children, Michael Smith (Cathy) of Columbus, Pat Stancliff (Dale) of Bay Minette, AL, Sharon Weihl (Freemond) of Stockbridge, Aubrey Smith III (Phyllis) of Columbus, Joey Smith (Tamra) of Columbus, Nancy Whittenton (James) of Gulf Shores, AL, Rodney Smith of Columbus, John Smith of Phenix, City, AL,, Lynne Combs (Jack) of Locust Grove, Marc Minko (Brigitte) of Jenkinsburg, and Thomas Minko of Jonesboro; sister, Catherine Misiak of Michigan; 28 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.





Mr. Smith retired from the US Army with 28 plus years of service that he served very proudly and received numerous military awards to include induction into the USAMU Hall of Fame. Mr. Smith also retired from GT Distributors as a District Sales Representative for 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, sports, playing cards, slot machines and was known for his personality in never meeting a stranger and enjoyed people. He was a member of the Military Marksmanship Association, the VFW, Veterans of Underage Military Service, and the Korean War Veterans Association.





The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 8, 2017 from 12:00 – 1:30 PM prior to the funeral service at 1:30 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery.
